Hi.
Before considering to buy K800, i would like to know if its possible to use a data + power cable since the cable that logitech provides is only capable of powering the keyboard, as i had researched on it.
Source: http://www.everythingusb.com/logitech-wireless-ill
Quoting from the source - "One puzzling issue is that the USB charging cable is not also a DATA cable. Even when plugged in you need to leave the wireless transceiver plugged in. Would have making the USB cable dual purpose been that hard?"
Or...it will not work since it has something to do with the keyboard itself and not the cable? Reason is because i do not wish to rely on the wireless data receiver if in any event, i may lose it or accidentally damage it. And if i do, i can at least quickly resolve the issue by using a data+power cable and get back to my personal things at hand instantly.
Has anyone tried doing this?

The "source" talks out of its rear end. The charger cable with the K800 is a bog standard micro-USB cable.
I have two of these cables, thanks to having a keyboard replaced under warranty. They work just fine with my mobile phones that have micro USB.
As I type this, my Acer Smartphone is connected to the PC through the K800's cable.
If you want to be charitable to the reviewer, then their comment should read that "the K800 can't work with a data cable".
That might be a good idea, but Logitech does not seem to be prepared to make "dual-use" or wired and wireless keyboards.

You can use any micro-USB cable you like to power the keyboard.
You can use the keyboard's micro-USB cable with any device, either as a charger or data connection.
The micro-USB will not turn the K800 into a wired keyboard.
The K800 was designed to be, get this, wireless. If you don't want a wireless keyboard, Logitech makes a wired Illuminated Keyboard.
If you are worried about the batteries running down in the keyboard, as soon as you connect it to a charger, it comes back to life.

oh shucks.
okay. looks like the wireless receiver must always be plugged into the tower/rig. So i won't be able to fully rely on a cable to achieve both purposes [power + data] for the K800.
Also, it has nothing to do with the cable not having wires for data transfer, since you and some others that i have asked on other forums, mentioned that the cable is capable of powering and doing data-transfer for other electronic devices.
Here are my reasons for having asked if its possible to use some other cable to supply power and do data transferring for the K800:
1] to have BOTH options to use the K800 wirelessly [on batteries and wireless receiver] and wired-ly [ on a power+data cable].
2] *ahem*...i am quite the careless type of person and have a tendency to mishandle my electronic gadgets sometimes. Such as not ensuring that the USB Head is position correctly before plugging in. So if in any event in the future that i may damage the wireless receiver, i can easily just resort to using the K800 like any other wired keyboard.
3] also, i am aware that there are pros and cons for both options. And i would like to switch between both of them, depending on how i may want to use the K800 for whatever purposes or reasons Sort of like a "versatile" keyboard. lol!!!.
Thanks for your time and answers. (^^).
Greatly appreciated...
