Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

I recently upgraded to an EX110 cordless keyboard and mouse.  My previous similar Logitech keyboard and mouse bit the dust.  I am using the PS/2 connection for both.
Under Control Panel, I have shown Logitech Mousware 9.79.1 and Logitech Setpoint installed.  The setpoint is for my new hardware.  I think the mouseware was for my older hardware.  In any case when I try to remove it, the procedure fails and my computer reboots.  I am running Win XP Pro.  What can I do to get it removed?

Do you get an error message when the uninstall fails? If so, what does the error message say?

I select the program and it is highlighted.  I selected the button to remove and the installer asks for confirmation and I give it.  That is the last sign of normalicy with this.  the highlighted rectangle flashes a few times and then Control panel disappears and then Windows just reboots my computer.

That does point to some system problem. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to track what the cause is down. I would suggest doing a clean boot and attempt the uninstall again. That may resolve this if it is related to a conflict with an application running in the background. Also it wouldn't hurt to run a virus scan, just to be safe.

Re: Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

OK, I am not sure about what "system problem" means. I am able to install and uninstall my Logitech joystick software and other software with no problem.  I thought it might have something to do with the windows registry because I have seen other messages here how to remove items directly related to mouse issues.  I regularly scan my sysem for viruses and spyware.  I am not sure what you mean by a "clean boot; do you mean a "windows safe  boot"?  Incidently, all my Logitech software including my Setpoint software for my new mouse does work properly. Re: Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

Mousewares and Setpoint are not designed to work on a system together, because they are both mouse software, with Setpoint having the additional component of keyboard control software as well, similar to Itouch for the older keyboards. From what you have said, it sounds like you attempted to uninstall Mousewares before uninstalling Setpoint, after you had installed Setpoint. Setpoint and Mousewares both use common files, and they tend to place "their" files in different locations from each other, which makes it difficult for the other software to locate those files. I recommend that you reinstall Mousewares under a clean boot, instructions will be provided in a moment. Then, reinstall Setpoint as well, also under the clean boot procedures. Then UNINSTALL Setpoint, and Mousewares (Setpoint first), while still under the clean boot procedures. Leave both software uninstalled, and see if the mouse works fine without any problems. You can then always reinstall Setpoint, for your current mouse, after you have tested and verified that it's properly working.
This is the clean install document for Mousewares, just follow the same steps for Setpoint as well (just remembering to download Setpoint instead of Mousewares). I don't know what operating system you have, so just look in the document, and you will locate the clean install document (228, or 229) for your appropriate operating system.
619 Doing a clean install of MouseWare.

Re: Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

Hi, I tried the clean boot using answer id 228, "Booting Clean in Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP". Essentially I ran MSCONFIG and unchecked system.ini, win.ini and Load Startup Items.  When I rebooted the system came up running 3 essential services only.  I rebooted every time I did something and made sure nothing else had started under msconfig.  The bottom line is that the fix did not work.  If I repeatedly install mouseware (apparently over itself) under a clean boot and then after a reboot try to uninstall, the procedure still reboots my computer.  It does not matter if I have successfully uninstalled setpoint or not; I am left in the same position.  The system will not let me uninstall mouseware even under a clean boot.

Re: Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

OK, I think I got over these problems.  I went into the Registry and deleted EVERY occurrence of "Logitech".  Once I rebooted mouse manager did not appear in the list of programs I could remove under Control Panel.  I then installed Setpoint normally.  Everything seems to be working OK now.
However I have one small problem and I think it is related to Logitech configuration.  When starting my non-admin user session under Windows XP, I get the error message each time:

Logitech Update
Sorry, you must have Administrator privileges to complete this task.

I have updated my software in admin mode and the error does not go away.  This was happening before my first message here when I was trying to remove mouse manager.  Since it is removed now (I think) this must be related to Setpoint configuration.  How do I turn this off for any non-admin user?

Re: Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

OK, I think I figured out everything now.  I did not know I had a legacy product with the EX-100 since I had just purchased it.  I had installed version 3.10 instead of version 2.41 which was the appropriate version for my product.  Once I figured this out and fixed it, everything now works fine.  I think the major problem I had before was getting rid of mouseware and I achieved this (frantically mind you) by editing the registry.
Thanks for your help. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Logitech Mousware 9.79.1

Rick,

Can you tell me if Mouseware 9.79.1 is compatible with TrackMan Marble FX and if so, where I can get it to install on my machine?
