Hi,
I just purchased a Logitech Quickcam AF webcam off ebay which is due for delivery this morning. The listing said new and everything looks great except their is a penned in 6 digit number on the packaging '919245' the guy also sold another one in previous week which had '919269'. When I quired it with him and requested source of stock he stated:
"My company was scrapping and recycling aload of it equipment , i came across two of these cameras and stopped them from being out in the skip , I have opened the box to make sure all parts are there. Not sure what the code is on the box, 1st class is the postage I will be using"
So he has also mentioned he's opened the box to check inside so I'm just wondering how will I know if it's brand new as I already own one of these purchased back in 2010 (£69.99) Play.com and for the past 6 months my dad's been nagging to borrow & purchase mine but I never wanted to so he asked me to look for one but my point being if I was to look at my webcam now their's no real obvious signs of wear or tear any scratch marks etc cause it's just stayed in one place I just want to be reassured that if it delovopes a fault with-in 2 years that it'll be covered by Logitech and how would they know If I purchased it new or not.
Is their some kind of seriel or product registration I can run some numbers through to check on warranty status which would also inform me if the webcam was new or not. I'd also like to make a point that market place was only option it was either Amazon or eBay as all uk retailers have no stock and so I purchased of eBay because price on Amazon is stupid at £105 / £110 but this one I got for just £21.50 (plus £8.50 shipping) I upgraded from 1st class to next day so paypaled a little extra from the orignal £5.50 true cost of shipping is £7.55
Thanks
Edit: oh yeah I'd just like to mention my maxium bid for the webcam was £54.50 (plus £5.50 shipping) So I was willing to pay £60 so I was suprised when I got it for half that but as mentioned before the only QuickCam AF on eBay was two new which were both on bids, refurbished & used.. I saw some while ago Play.com was lowering price from £69.99 to £54.99 some several months ago but unfortunately have never restocked so has this webcam been discontinued ?
I see plenty of US Retailers stocking them but only market place in uk
While I'm here, If they have been discontinued I'd just like to remind Logitech to keep some back for people with active warrantys such as what didn't happen with my Logitech Z 10's which ultimately cost me 6 weeks of my life and £210.
Edit: Hm, Something tell's me this is 'used' and a great deal of efforts been used to ensure it appears as new in terms of packaging etc. Also it has company sticker 'thomson prometric' which when searched state's
"The leading global provider of comprehensive testing and assessment services"
Which I think confirms it's a refurbished webcam. I specifically asked if it was refurbeshed due to digits on the box but that was only after I had put my bid in and he proclaimed to have no knowledge yet presumably he works for the company..
I am not happy about this as 1. I've invested time & can't find a uk retailer who sells this webcam & 2. presumably their's no guarantee or warranty so if it breaks down after a few months I just lost £30.00.
Shall I put in a paypal dispuit ? I want the cam but I don't want a refurb but can't afford to pay £110 for a new one off Amazon. This listing stated it was new and mentioned nothing about being refurbished or used. Please advise as I'm not in mood to waste time
Here is eBay listing:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140771114161?ssPageName=
This is company that it's linked to:
http://www.prometric.com/default.htm
If it's a refurbed company and the webcams were "going to skip" presumably they're no good. If I put in a dispuit will paypal take the money from buyer to refund me ? The guy know's my name, address, paypal, & phone number. I don't want cause trouble but I don't want to 'pay' for a refurbished cam complete bait n' switch! Ripped off again and to think I paypalled a little extra £1 or so cause I felt bad for getting it cheapo. He got 100% feedback I have feeling he'll probally play dumb
I want to know where this webcam orignated from & when it was first purchased!
How much are extended warranty's ? prehaps if I request half the money back (£15) it should buy me a warranty through a 3rd party or doe's Logitech offer such service I'm not getting any answers. I need answers!!!
Is their any unique idenfication S.M.A.R.T technology embedded into the cam ? I checked the box and barcode's is same as mine
