Logitech Gaming Software won't start up

[ Edited ]

My gaming software does seem to want to start up, it usually starts up on it own when I log in to my computer, but today, when I logged in, it didn't start up. So I decided to find the .exe and start it from there.... that didn't work. I've tried reinstalling it.... still nothing... I've reinstalled it after fixing registry errors... still nothing. This is the only program on my computer that won't start up.

Any help? :/

Re: Logitech Gaming Software won't start up

Add me to the list, folks..

I've tried everything I could think of. Unistalling, reinstalling, trying older versions. Nothing helps.

The weirdest thing is it happened all of a sudden. One day it worked, the next.. Crash!

It's almost like some ill written malware attack that f***ed up the system.

Why don't any of you Logitech techs start looking into this?

Don't you even monitor these forums?

Here's what happens..

Installing the Gaming Software proceeds normal, including the device / force test dialog,

but when the installer launches LWEMon, it goes belly up.

I've managed to coerce a partial crash report from the **bleep**ty XP error reporter.

I had to write a C hack to even get that out, so exqueeze me it's not complete.

The faulting module is LWUtils.dll. I had to trucate most of the report here

due to the 20000 char posting limit.

I can supply the rest of this report, plus FileMon and RegMon logs of the crash

if needed. Unfortunately I cant privide a crash dump or proper stack trace, since

some bozo at MS saw fit to cripple the honest Dr Watson when XP came out :-/

Ping me, and I'll mail the lot.

BTW: Since MS introduced DEP you really ought to rewrite some of the

usermode code in your driver package, since you get bugouts with RunDLL.

You should avoid using RunDLL altogether.. It's a skittish mechanism that

just obfuscates what's going on.

Re: Logitech Gaming Software won't start up

Ah.. Victory goes to the tenacious! I may have found a solution to the startup problem.

After my last post I browsed other similar problems on the forum and did find profiler startup issues

with vista 64 bit, that was solved by deleting the main profiler data file, LWPGames.dat.

As it turned out, it also solved the startup problem on WinXP 32 bit.

Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Logitech\Gaming Software

Delete LWPGames.dat

Optionally delete, move, or archive the {GUID}.xml profile files if you still get problems,

then when you get starting again do a trial / error one by one to see which one was bad.

On Vista, the path is: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Logitech\Gaming Software

Cheerio

Re: Logitech Gaming Software won't start up

I too am suffering from this problem.

It started two days ago and I have been trying to work with tech support to solve the issue.

I am running Win 7 64bit

It is only the gaming software for my joystick (G940) that stopped working. The software for my G13, G15 (same software for both) works fine as well as my G35 Headset software.

I was informed by Tech support to do a clean boot install but that had no effect either.

Still waiting for a reply from them now. I will post it here if a solution is brought to my attention so others can reap the benefits from our frustrations!

Re: Logitech Gaming Software won't start up

Issue Solved - At the momment

Hello, thanks to the info above (in this thread) I was able to fix my issue.

If you are running Windows 7 64 bit, I recommend you do the following.

go to the following directory in your computer (you will have to enable hidden files view).

C:\Users\REPLACE WITH YOUR USERNAmE\AppData\Local\Logitech\Gaming Software

In the folder above I found several xml files. I moved them to a temporary folder (I recomend you do the same). Then I had no problem starting the program again.  I then imported backups of my profiles (shame on you if you don't make backups) and it seems to be working fine now.

I am not sure if this will solve things for a long time or not, but it appears to have fixed the issue for now.  I am assuming that one of the xml files became corrupt through a windows glitch of some sort.

I hope this helps any of you!
