I have had the g500s for less than a month now. Every few minutes or seconds the mouse likes to stop working, but the left and right mouse button and the scroll wheel still work. It does not make the sound of a USB being unplugged. I am running on Windows 7 64 bit.

I suggest to verify if the mouse is plugged in on a USB 2.0 port. Bypass the use of KVM switch boxes, port replicators, docking stations, and USB hubs if any. If all of these are checked, you can try to uninstall and reload its native mouse drivers. Follow the steps provided below to do this:
