Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

Before buying this, I'd like to know whether the rechargeable battery can be replaced when it no longer works well? Any idea how long the battery will charge optimally?

thanks

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

The UE boombox is awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0Zm7sJYu4E

I have already purchased  the boombox, but also want to know when there will be replacement batteries for them, as with all batteries, they deteriorate over time, and batteries like this arte good for about 500 charge cycles. So it will be nice to know that you can buy replacement batteries and keep this awesome gadget going forever.

Battery is very easy to get at, and very easy to swap out once the replacements become available.

Hopefully ASAP!

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

Hello fbientje,

I'm understanding you would like to know if the battery can be replaced for the UE Mobile Boombox. Also, how long the optimal charge will be. I'll be more than happy to assist you with this matter.

Let's start with your first question. Unfortunately, the battery can't be replaced and we don't have any replacement parts for the UE Mobile Boombox. The battery is not accessible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may bring.

Now let's continue with your second question; We recommend a 4 hour (estimated) time to recharge. Which we feel is the optimal.

Please check the following link for more technical specifications about this device: UE Mobile Boombox Technical Specifications

I hope this information helps.

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

I'm new to feed but have question. Recently purchased 2 boom boxes, love them. Heading out on long trip, African safari...pics only.I'll be without power for up to 6 days. Have got plenty of Cam batteries to cover period but need about 4 or 5 more for one of my boxes..Question when, or if batteries will be available? Leaving in October 2013. Thanks.

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

Based on the response earlier, the battery isn't accessible, so it's unlikely Logitech will release replacement batteries for the mobile boombox...

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

I just bought one of these and while I think the product is nice, what am I supposed to do with it when the battery dies?

I bought a UE Mobile Boombox for myself, loved it's performance, bought two more, one each for my two children - THEN discovered that after an estimated several hundred charges it will no longer be "mobile' - because the battery is "proprietory" and no replacement is ever going to be available. All Logitech can offer is "the product has a two year warranty". I'd suggest taking it back with the 'expired' lithium battery a week before that two years is up. Please review the following communication before you purchase this item. Products with non-replaceable batteries should be illegal under Australian Consumer Law - they are NOT - I checked this with NSW Fair Trading. This state of affairs is appalling. if it is not rectified, I will never buy a Logitech item ever again.

 Dear Tim,

Thank you for the update.

If that is the case, you have to check it on the point of purchase other option. They might consider a one day late for the warranty.

Hi Francis, you still haven't answered my question. I will keep it simple: What happens when the item is one day past the warranty period and the battery no longer functions? Regards, Tim

Dear Tim,

Thank you for the update.

Tim, the battery is proprietary to Logitech meaning you cannot replace it with other batteries. If it will not perform correctly within the 2 years warranty and you have the receipt the store should replace it.

Dear Francis, Thank you for your reply. But you fail to answer my question. I assume the warranty period is twelve months (in Australia), yes? OK. So, in the future, when the unit is 13 months old, and the battery has been charged/discharged over 500 times, and will no longer hold a charge, what am I supposed to do with it then? Also, what does "proprietary to Logitech" mean? Does it mean, "we have a put a rechargeable battery in this item which can
not ever be replaced, and when its serviceable life is exhausted you might as well send the entire unit to the local landfill (rubbish tip) to aid in destroying our planet"...? Even Apple accept that the rechargeable batteries in their iphones must be replaceable. Does Logitech not accept this? If this is not rectified by Logitech, I will post comments to this effect on every internet site possible - all the YouTube reviews, the Amazon listings, and any other appropriate forums that I can find. I will also boycott all Logitech products in the future, and encourage others to do the same. Kind Regards, Tim

Dear Tim,

Thank you for contacting Logitech Customer Care.

I do apologize for the inconvenience you are having right now. I understand that you are having an issue with your Logitech UE Mobile Boombox. It seems that you have an inquiry regarding the battery. I'm glad to assist you with your concern. My name is Francis, and for future follow-ups, here is your reference number {Personal content removed for your safety}.

Tim, the battery is a Li-on rechargeable battery that is proprietary to
Logitech. In case you will encounter an issue with it and it is still under warranty, you can check a replacement from the point of purchase.

Hi. I recently purchased a Logitech UE Mobile Boombox. It performs fantastically. I am considering buying TWO more UE Boomboxes - one each for my two teenage children. BUT, what is going to happen to it when the internal rechargeable battery has ended it's serviceable life? Looking for an answer to this question I see a post on your forum suggesting there is no way - even for a Logitech service representative - to replace an old battery in this item? Please tell me this isn't so? That would be a shamefully, disgusting waste of the world's resources and in my humble opinion should be ILLEGAL in this day and age.
I am hopeful that you will reply to me confirming that when the battery in my unit has expired, someone - even if I am unable to do it - will be able to install a new battery.
I look forward to your response. In the meantime, the thought of my buying two more units is "on hold"...

Kind Regards,

Tim

[ Edited ]

It sounds like 24-months - beyond that, it's a mystery & a gamble.

After reading all the vague responses from various Logitech Specialists regarding battery life (charge cycles) and an apparent inability by Logitech to at least try to help answer this concern regarding product longevity (beyond the 2-year warranty)I cannot invest in this Logitech product. It's unfortunate, considering how much I wanted to like the new UE Boom.

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

It's a 18650 Li-ion battery. You can just swap them out. Not sure why Logitech is trying to hide this. Simply remove the black cover and attach the positive and negative wires and your good to go. $10 on ebay for a Panasonic.

Re: Can you replace battery for UE mobile boombox?

Agree with sdf1skull 100%. You can get these batteries very cheap in every corner of the Internet. There's a ton of extra space in the battery compartment, you can get a holder with leads and do some soldering, and you'd be set. Would be easier for them to just offer the battery with connector, but, apparently their official answer is that you're screwed...
