I searched through all of the postings regarding availabilty, error # 408, etc and nothing seems to help with my dilemna. Here's the situation.
I currently have 2 Logitec pro 9000 webcams, one at my parents house in Florida and one at my house in CT. I have been doing Video chat's using AOL's IM service but would love to switch to Logitech's service if possible. I have installed the Logitec Vid software on both computers. Both machines are set up using a Netgear Router and Symantec's Norton 2010 Internet Security product. I have changed the LogiTech's access to "Allow" within the Norton's Program Trust section and we added each other as friends. The CT computer is showing as "available" on the Florida computer but the Florida computer is showing as "unavailable" on the CT computer. I have tried this with both machines directly connected to the cable modem and connected through the router and the result is the same. Both machines are showing the little icon in the bottom right hand corner in "blue" and when i put the mouse over it, they both say "Logitech Vid Available". I have logged out and back in. I have rebooted the computers and have rebooted the routers, all to no avail. Both machines can make practice calls without a problem.
The Florida computer calls the CT computer but then eventually a #408 error appears. The CT computer can't call the Florida comptuer because it is showing as unavailable.
Any thoughts as to what else I can try?

Could you please try to logout and re-login the other computer (Florida) as well, if they haven't done so, and check again each status then make a call?
If the 408 error persists, let me know the brand/model of your cable modems and Netgear routers.
Thanks,

I am having a very similar problem. I am in CT with a Webcam Pro 9000 and Mom is in MI with the same camera. My VID says I am available, but says MI is unavailable. MI says she's available, but says I'm unavailable. We are getting error #408. We were able to connect successfully using the original software provided with the camera, but I would get the "blue screen error" just prior to my computer going to sleep. Both MI and I have installed the latest update for this webcam from Logitech. Since then, we are unable to connect. Can you please help us get connected again?
Thanks, Danielle

We were experiencing intermittent server issues since the end of year holiday. Our engineers have since implemented additional hardware and software updates to handle the additional user capacity. Our engineers have been monitoring it and the system has been showing stable.
This should resolve the intermittent presence/status issues, that is, contacts showing Unavailable even though they're available; and other connection issues related to the servers.
We thank you for your patience and support.

I also had this problem until I found a tip on the web to check the settings on my router which is a D-link 855. in the advanced firewall section there is a checkbox for SIP that must be unchecked whilst SPI should be checked.
Applying this setting all my 408 problem are gone ![]()

Any word on resolutions to this issue? Last post i saw was 1/24/2010. The 408 error you receive when trying to make a call is always paired with a "My Status: Connecting" indicator in my upper left corner. Since installation i have never acheived any other status than "connecting" (ie never had a successful call).
I have followed all norton firewall procedures outlined in the various posts, downloaded all latest logitech software and rebooted 100s of times...
We run Windows Vista Home Premium on HP desktop directly connected to cable model (charter communications Motorola Modem)... so should not be any router related issues i have read about on various posts with networked laptop PC problems.
Please let us know if this is just a lost cause and we should move on to other video calling hardware software applications as this is extremely frustrating.
Thanks

I've continued to have this error as well as getting the blue error screen whenever my computer goes into sleep mode. I spoke with a Logitech technician who suggested I uninstall all drivers and Logitech software. He suggested using Skype or other software. This have been working perfectly since I switched.
