Hi. I am using a quickcam deluxe for notebooks and it is installed and works fine taking pictures and video. I downloaded and installed Logitech Vid and so did my friend. My friend calls me for a video chat and I accept it but then it stops and says either theirs or my firewall has blocked the call. How should I go about changing my firewall settings to allow Logitech Vid chats incoming and outgoing? I looked at the settings of my firewall and it says it allows it, but it still doesn't work. Please help.
System:
HP HDX 16-137OUS Notebook
Windows Vista Home Premium
4GB RAM
NVidia GeForce GT 130M
500GB HDD

I'm responding to an old thread, but my response is triggered by very new events. A customer of mine picked up a couple of Logitech web cameras that came with a CD that offered to install Logitech VID. I figured I would give it a try, so the installation was completed without incident on two different Windows XP-Pro workstations.
We then set up the two Logitech VID accounts and began testing. Initially, the two workstations were on the same LAN segment, but the later use of these cameras will involve the workstations being connected to the Internet on different networks. I just wanted to see it work in a simpler environment first.
Each workstation recognized that the other user was "available", so I started trying to use the VID software. One station was able to "call' the other insofar as the process got as far as the other station was ringing, and there was a button available to accept the call. However, upon pressing the accept call button, the call setup did not complete, and the failure was accompanied by various error messages. Some just said the call failed, others blamed a firewall issue. When tried the other direction, I could not even get as far as to cause the other station to ring.
In this case, the Windows firewall was disabled for testing on both workstations. There were no other firewalls in use, and since testing was being done on the same LAN segment, there was no reason to be concerned with the Internet router as far as I know.
At this point, I decided to just abandon Logitech VID software for the moment and setup Skype on the two workstations. Once the Skype accounts were created and the installations completed, I began testing once again using the Logitech camera hardware. Well ... Skype just worked. There were no issues, no troubleshooting, nothing to do except just use it.
I then disconnected one machine from the LAN, and reconnected it to the Internet using a US Cellular "air card". That's the manner in which one of these workstations will actually be used. Once the connection was changed to the air card, Skype testing was repeated, and everything still worked perfectly. Just as a final test, the Logitech VID programs were tried again, and failures continued there.
Logitech clearly needs to figure out what's wrong here. When VID fails totally, and Skype "just works" in identical environments, something needs attention. My experiences were on Aug 10, 2011 with equipment purchased at Best Buy on Aug 9, 2011.
Kindest regards,
Brian C. Jackson

Hello bjackson;
If you would please do the following to help isolate the source of the call failures:
Add the e-mail address vidtest@logitech.com to both of the Logitech Vid HD user accounts.
Have the computer connected via the US Cellular "air card" call the "Vid 2 Min Demo".
Then have the computer connected via the LAN call the "Vid 2 Min Demo".
What were the observed call results for each computer?
If you experienced call failures, which computer encountered it?
What was the precise behavior leading up to the actual failed call and was the entire error message displayed?
Additionally, please let us know what the status (e.g. available, unavailable, blank, etc) of the computers Vid HD user account was as well as the status of the "Vid 2 Min Demo" was at the time of the calling and failure?
Thanks

i am having the same issues on windows 7 platform. i was attempting to talk with my grandmother, but were unable to do so. :-( we try to not confuse her with too many different applications, but I think we're going to have to convert her to either skype of gchat. what a shame.

Hello massiveBrains:
A firewall error call failure message in Logitech Vid HD is typically due to a router.
If you follow the steps I outline in the this forums thread by adding and calling the demo, you can isolate who's end is the source of the issue.
Then follow the steps in FAQ 11771 to assist in resolving the issue.
Thanks
