My new laptop needs a Bluetooth trackman. If one is not available soon, I may just have to pick up some parts from my local electronics store and see what I can do myself. If it comes down to that, I will document the whole process and share it here for the benefit of others.
But I am hoping first that Logitech beats me too it. I was first in line to by the MX Laser mouse when it was released, so I would not mind waiting outside the store on release day for this either.

Honestly, I think they're missing out here. Yes, many people don't like the trackball, however, a mouse is inconvenient in many cases as well. Laptops for instance could benefit greatly as people like to use thier laptops wherever, not just on a desktop which is a prerequisite for using a mouse. For me, I'd like it mostly for using with a home theater and don't really want to use the mouse on the coffee table. Yes, I know Logitech is building new keyboards with touch pads that emulate a mouse, but the main reason people want mice/trackballs for laptops is because touchpads are far less then ideal. I think Logitech should consider two trackball models: Entry level wired model and a higher level BT model. not sure what the holdup is.

A couple people have mentioned trying to make their own. I am interested in this too, but it's a larger undertaking than I think myself capable unassisted.
I suspect that we could connect a bluetooth controller from some mouse into a trackball. My Microsoft trackball seems to be mostly empty space inside, so there'd be plenty of space for kludge-y wiring. I can solder it myself, but would need help designing the interface.
I've never written drivers before, but would learn if we have a way to create such a device. I've got a good book with a chapter the subject. If we use a trackball and bluetooth controller that already have Linux drivers, then it shouldn't be too hard to write something for 'em combined.
But I'd rather pay $100 each and not have to do that. Seriously, it sounds like a pain. A pain I can enjoy using for years, and a pain I can put on my resume (and e-bay), but a pain none the less.
