G5 occasionally stops working

I recently installed vista bussiness on my machine and now my G5 occasionally stops working for 3-10 seconds. Originally I thought it was happening because I was running the default vista drivers, but I tried installing setpoint 4.40 and it didn't seem to change anything.

I have the same problem while running Fedora 9 and Ubuntu 8.04. I didn't spend time looking for linux drivers though.

My G5 worked great with the default Windows XP drivers, and also worked after I installed setpoint4.40 on XP.  For the time being I'm sticking to XP, but I'd reallly appreciate any help with getting it to work on vista at the very least.

Re: G5 occasionally stops working

My guess is that you have a hardware problem with the mouse (probably a fault in the cord) and it is a coincidence that it hasn't happened in XP.

Try it on another PC to make sure it is the mouse that is the problem (not your PC). If the problem is the same on the other PC, get the mouse replaced.

Less than 30 days since purchase, you need to exchange it where you got it.
After 30 days, you would be covered under the 3 or 5 year warranty from Logitech.
See here for RMA info. You could also e-mail Customer Support if you need help with the warranty procedure.

Re: G5 occasionally stops working

I really don't think it is the mouse itself. I'm dual booting windows XP and Vista right now and whenever I'm using XP, I don't have any issues with the mouse at all.  Whenever I'm using vista though, the mouse will occasionally stop responding (freezes) for several seconds, then jump across the screen and work fine for awhile until it stops working again for several seconds.

Hi:smileyhappy:,

Does your G5 also exhibit this kind of behavior when used with a different computer running Vista?
