I heard that some mice have beenchanged?- dont think this will work with mine - the warranty period is over.

I think that is reall good for a low quality china mouse to work for a year :manvery-happy:

Re: Logitech mouse G7 freezes

To add to the list of tricks the G7 can do, it seems that my battery charger is now dead. I tried switching USB ports, and I even plugged my iPod in to test it. My computer picked up on the iPod, but the batteries won't charge.

Re: Logitech mouse G7 freezes

Well, it turns out it's not dead. I just have to apply massive amounts of pressure to the battery while it's in the charger to get it to charge. This is absolutely absurd. I'm not going to sit here pressing as hard as I can so I can use my mouse.

Hi,

If your charger is dead, it would be best to email Customer Support to make a warranty claim.

Re: Logitech mouse G7 freezes

I have the same issue as many do in this thread...the G7 freezes. When using my Logitech G7 wireless mouse, at random intervals, no matter what I'm doing, it seems to lose signal and the cursor on-screen becomes unresponsive. At this point, I wait a few seconds and it automatically reconnects. It's not a hardware issue related to my PC, as I've tried it on a different computer to the same effect. I've tried it in different USB ports, and my mouse is no further than a foot away from the receiver at any given time. It's been a little over a year since I purchased this...is there any hope of a warranty, or should I just resort to buying a different mouse? Also, I've checked and I'm on the latest version of SetPoint, and the battery power is max.

Re: Logitech mouse G7 freezes

[ Edited ]
I have also joined the club of G7 owners whose mice have developed a freeze up problem. I have owned the mouse since I purchased it from Amazon in November of 2006, and the freezing up began just a couple of days ago. It has gotten so bad that I am using another Logitech mouse (a model LX 7 that I normally use with an old computer). I am having no problem with the LX 7, so I am sure that it is a hardware problem with the mouse. I have emailed support concerning the problem, but have not heard back from them as of yet. If there are any Logitech folks on this thread, could you let me know how long I should expect to wait before I hear back from support?

Re: Logitech mouse G7 freezes

Well, nothing new in this message; just to confirm that I'm experiencing the same issues.

I tried the mouse on Windows XP SP3 and Vista Ultimate, with and without Logitech drivers, on a Windows machine.

I also tried the mouse (without Logitech drivers) on a MacPro (running native Windows Vista Ultimate or Mac OS X Leopard).

I tried my 2 laptops (Windows XP SP2, and Mac OS X Tiger). Even tried my computer at work.
Different locations, with or without USB hub, with or without wifi enabled (incl. switching off the router), switching off my cordless phones, tried different locations. With or without additional USB devices.

I even tried the battery trick,... but in the end; nothing solved the problem.

Since I already have this mouse for a while, I probably will not be able to dig up the invoice.
As a long time Logitech user and fan, I'm highly disappointed ... yes even disappointed in the responses from Logitech in this forum. After so many years of quality products and never having a need for support, I now find myself in a position where Logitech really has let me down ...

Calling tech support or asking for support in this forum is almost like a tag-game, everybody sends you to somebody else, and when they're out of people to direct you to, suddenly the invoice becomes key. That is just ridiculous; the fact that I have the product, and the fact that they can check the serial number, should be enough ...

Logitech; very disappointing!
I love the G7, make it work, or offer a comparable product that works (which is NOT the G5 or the G9).

Re: Logitech mouse G7 freezes

Hey,

I am also one of the unlucky G7 freezing mouse user. But i took the time to read the whole thread and do a bit of diagnostic on my own.Though i'm not at home where i have sofisticated equipment that would give me more detail, i tried simple things.So...the battery problem....maybe.

But let me tell you this: the ususal behaviour is that the mouse freezes for a couple of seconds, then comes back to normal, then freezes again, and finally comes to a complete stop.Reset mouse does not work...the only solution is to unplug the receiver and plug it back in.Well the mouse behaives the same if you are far enought from the trasmitter that the signal becomes low and SNR(Signal to noise ratio) rises to a level that makes communication impossible.Even if you bring your mouse close to the receiver or power cycle the mouse wonn't help.So the battery problem becomes plausible.

I took my G7 apart on many ocasions(cleaning...and this time to fix my freeze problem)., and i can tell you that this is no ordinary mouse. It pack so much electronics in it that there is barely room for anything else.If i remember this right the mouse MCU(microcontroller unit) operates at 20Mhz (though i might be wrong). Some on said that when you move the mouse vibration kicks in.He is right. If the battery contact is not perfect that vobration will affect the way current flows from the battery to the mouse. He is also right.Though not visible to the naked eye this effect can be visualised on a high speed osciloscope. It will show as spikes on the diplay. This type of noise is very bad for microcontrollers. It can vary from unexpected restes to unexpected operation(totaly random). For the G7 loss of cursor control is the result of it.

So what to do?....After i took the mouse apart i used cleaning agent ot clean the battery contacts(cleaning agents remove oxidation also..so that makes them good for our purpose),both batteries, and the internal mouse power pins. I also used a fine scredriver and managed to pull the pins out about 3mm. Now when i insert my battery into the mouse i need more force to push it in and the click that makes when the battery is in place sounds very firm. If space allows inside the mouse i would suggest adding a small electrolitic capacitor (10uF should sufice) in parallel with the power pins of the mouse. This capacitor will act as a filter to reduce noise when the contact surface between the battery and the power pins becomes unreliable.

All i can tell you is that after this procedure, about 24 hours ago, my problem dissapered completelly.I can now play all my games without beeing worried that my mouse will freeze. Before that it used to stop working every hour or so,sometimes even worse.

Hope you all can enjoy reading this and get your mice up and running in no time.
