MX Revolution Free Spin Stopping

I've recently noticed after about 2 months of normal MX Revolution mouse usage, the hyper-scroll wheel will just stop about half the time when I flick it. I've run it through slowly and felt that there's an area normally where it gets slowed down a bunch, which is new. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Will I need to RMA it?

I'm starting to have the same problem after about 3 months of use. It feels like the scroll wheel is getting gummed up or has a hair wrapped around the axis or something. Thing is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to open this thing up to clean out the insides without resorting to damaging measures.

Well, I figured out how to open the MX Revolution. There are screws located beneath the front and the two rear "feet". It looks like the wheel's axle broke on one side. When it's upside down, it still spins pretty well, but right side up, the lack of the right-hand axle causes it to drag on the bottom of its housing.
I feel kind of ripped off since all of the pictures of the free-wheeling mechanism make it look like it's made of cast aluminum, but the entire base of the structure and the axles are made of plastic. I don't think it's worth my time to mess around with securing an RMA, digging up receipts and all that, so it looks like my free-wheeling days are over ...
C'est la vie ...

Free-spin mode for hyper-fast, nearly frictionless scrolling. With a single flick, the machined alloy wheel spins for up to seven seconds, scrolling hundreds of pages or thousands of rows. Fly through long documents, and instantly stop wherever you want.
Click-to-click mode for detailed navigation. An ultra-precise ratchet-scrolling mechanism allows users to move line-by-line through complex spreadsheets, step through slideshows, or travel small vertical distances in documents or Web pages.

Your wheel may not be faulty after all.

i have the same problem with my mouse (ie the wheel does not spin freely) i found that this was because the rubber band around the wheel has stretched thereby expending it and creating friction with the plastic below the wheel
i`m not sure if this would be covered by warranty
and just for the admins:
yes the wheel is in free spin mode
no there is no dirt in the wheel

Your best option would be to contact Logitech Technical Support regarding their replacement policies.

I'm sorry to necropost, but I'm getting frustrated. I'm on my third MX Revolution for this problem. I don't abuse or mistreat it, and it stays on my desk almost all the time (I transport it maybe once a month). These must be terribly built for this to be happening. I too have noticed that it spins fine when upside down. I'm really wary of just RMAing it again. Why are these so poorly built that this keeps on happening?

I've also gone through two MX Revolution mice with the same problem: both lost their free scrolling function in about the third month of ownership. I think it's a great concept -- which works great out of the box -- bu ultimately just a poor design, poorly implemented.
