VX Revolution Scroll Wheel Issues

I've gotten my VX Revolution for 2 or 3 months but recently I've noticed the middle click for the scroll wheel is very difficult to activate (such as when middle clicking in Firefox to open a link in a new tab), most of the time I just end up hitting the 'Left Scroll' tilt button. Just today I noticed my frictionless scrolling was not so frictionless anymore. Before it could spin at least 5-10 seconds, but now it stops after around 2 seconds. Also the user selectable scrolling rates for each program keeps resetting itself to whatever the default was, but that is probably Setpoint problem.

So any other VX Revolution owners with this issue? And which phone number or email should I be contacting about warranty issues?

Test the mouse on a different computer and let me know if you encounter similar problems.

Well the main issue I'm more concerned about is how the hyper-fast scrolling wheel doesn't work any more. That doesn't change if the mouse is attached to another computer. Curiously, the frictionless scrolling works if I hold the mouse upside down in the air(so the side normally facing upwards is facing downwards), so I guess it is jamming or something when it is right side up. I have yet to test the Setpoint issues on a different computer, but the middle click works sometimes and other times it doesn't. Like now it is working again and easy to activate again.

I would suggest that you contact Logitech Technical Support to obtain further information regarding their replacement policies.

Re: VX Revolution Scroll Wheel Issues

My VX did the exact same thing - over time the wheel went from smooth precision rolling to slow stagger movement.  I too noticed when you flip it upside it scrolls smoothly once again.  Further I took mine apart (not an easy task) to see if it needed cleaning - nothing obvious seemed to be causing the lack of smooth rolling.

I ended up purchasing another VX.  My company pays for it, so it's not as big deal for me.  However if I get the same life expectancy out of the new one, I may venture to something else.  My 1st VX lasted about a year.

One question for the OP, do you travel and take your VX with you?  As I do it always get thrown in my laptop bag and I had envisioned this could of caused some of the wear & tear.

Re: VX Revolution Scroll Wheel Issues

It must be a common problem... I've been going through the forum to find a thread like this because the exact same thing has happened to me! :smileysad:

I've only had it for about a month or so. It's pretty disappointing, I've really liked the mouse, but it doesn't scroll properly anymore, it barely spins when you scroll it.

I tried returning it to the place of purchase but they wouldn't allow me to exchange it for a new one. I'm leaving the country (Canada) in less than 2 weeks so I don't have time to wait for them to send it off to Logitech..

What have people done here?

Re: VX Revolution Scroll Wheel Issues

I'm having the same problem and I've tried to blast it with canned air. Made the scrolling a bit smoother but not nearly as fast as it was before. I would venture to say that the contact bearings are plastic, or at least some other cheap material, although this is just speculation. It is unfortunate that there is not way to easily remove the scroll wheel to apply some lubricant. I think a bit of silicone gel or graphite lubricant would do the trick, I just have no way of getting to the bearings.

Can anyone suggest a take-down or disassembly guide for the vx? It would be greatly appreciated!

Re: VX Revolution Scroll Wheel Issues

I had the same problem.  I do not recommend taking it apart since the VX has a generous 3 year warranty.

I did, because I was curious about it.  Same symptom.  Scrolls not so well.  Turn it upside down, and it scrolls fine.

It's the rubber, "grippy" part of the wheel.  It rubs slightly on the base of the wheel cradle when right side up.  The rubber part is a one piece unit that slips over the wheel.  Over time, this rubber part will expand and it gets a little too big for the wheel.

As you spin the wheel, the rubber becomes eliptical.

I simply removed the grip for now.  I will cut it by a mm or two later, but sans worn out grip, it spins fine.

Again, if you have this issue, call Logitech.  No need to do what I did.

Re: VX Revolution Scroll Wheel Issues

Hi:smileyhappy:,

Assuming your mouse is still within the warranty period, it would be best to contact Customer Support and make a warranty claim. In the event the warranty has expired, fixing it as foghorn67 did would be a viable solution.
