Keystroke Assignment Not Working: G9 Mouse + Setpoint 5.00.175

Whenever I assign buttons 4 or 5 to a modifier key [Ctrl, Alt, or Shift] or a combination of modifier keys, the buttons cease working. They work fine if I set those buttons to other functions, but not with the modifier keys. I know these keystroke assignments have worked with other Logitech mice in Setpoint 4.x and I find it hard to believe that removing the functionality is intentional. Anyone else experience this? I hope to see it fixed in the latest Setpoint update.

Re: Keystroke Assignment Not Working: G9 Mouse + Setpoint 5.00.175

UPDATE: A very duct-tape-and-chickenwire workaround exists. If you want the functionality of the 'Ctrl' or 'Shift' keys, use these keyboard assignments: Ctrl+' and Shift+Space. The effect is just the modifier key by itself. I'm not impressed that Logitech screwed up something so simple, though. In the meantime this should work.

I have been using SetPoint and MouseWare all my adult life and always assigned CTRL+ and SHIFT+ to the thumbs because that is soooo conveniant (copy paste, select files in explorer/outlook etc. etc.) and can't believe they messed this up... Were talking about a 99 euro/dollar mouse here. Fortunately this will be fixed in a simple update of SP 5.0, so let's all complain about it and force them to update!! It's just a small bug, I'm sure of that.

BTW that CTRL+SPACE approach doesn't work: try to select multiple files in explorer with it and you'll see what I mean. Personally I'm gonna try to replace SPACE for a key that is manually disabled in Keyboard Layout Scancode Map in Register [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout] "Scancode Map".

(Edited due to language. We understand your frustration but please watch the language and don't try to evade the smut filter. Thanks)

I agree - a ridiculous oversight that will hopefully be fixed in the next patch. I think you read my post wrong about the workarounds, though. For CTRL functionality, use CTRL+' [that's the apostraphe] and for SHIFT functionality, use SHIFT+[SPACE]. Both work for me in all applications, including Explorer windows. Cheers.

I see.... CTRL+tilde (next to the keyboard 1 or ¬) and SHIFT+tilde will also work I guess because that combo is never used for anything. But basically it's the same workaround, thanks!!! Message Edited by hotswank on 09-26-2007 04:31 PM

Re: Keystroke Assignment Not Working: G9 Mouse + Setpoint 5.00.175

Thanks for the work-around guys. I'll try it when I get home tonight. I find it a bit shocking that seemingly basic functionality that has existed in previous Logitech mice/software was overlooked, especially for a gaming mouse. Binding modifier keys while gaming is an essential feature of any mouse in my opinion. I hope Logitech resolves this issue swiftly since I currently have an expensive mouse which I cannot use. It would also be nice to get some acknowledgement from a mod that this is going to be fixed or is at least being looked at.

Re: Keystroke Assignment Not Working: G9 Mouse + Setpoint 5.00.175

I agree.  I consider this functionality, which is available on my old G5, for example, to be essential.  My G9 is utterly useless to me without it.

Please fix this soon.

Thanks.

Yep  modifier mappings was the main reason I bought for the G9, incidently in the same order I bought my girlfreind the G5 which works perfectly. sick.
 update please !

would this qualify for a return and refund from the retailer?
