what what what?! I just rebuilt my machine, and used the on-site download to install the software, not the disk I got a year or so ago. I've been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how to reprogram the "mail" and "IM" buttons to do what they used to (I had them finding and opening a specific folder...I don't look at my mouse to tell me I have mail).

Your telling me they pulled this ability from the new version?!

Or am I an idiot (never safe to believe otherwise) and I just can't find the right way to do it?

Thanks,

I think there was only one old version that defaulted to allowing those 2 buttons on the MX610 to be edited. Regardless, install uberOptions to (re)enable editing of all the buttons in SetPoint.

Exactly what snaut said. Just spent 2 hours resolving the issue. I may never do another Logitech update ever again.

Re: SetPoint 4.60 is available for download...

The latest version of SetPoint sorta broke my MX Revolution, also.

Because the MX Revolution is broken by being near my wife's V220 (my mouse constantly stops working, while her's is unaffected) if I leave my USB receiver plugged into my tower, I have to attach the USB receiver to an extension cord to make it work. Unfortunately, SetPoint doesn't see my mouse when I use my extension cord, so I'm left to choose between either a.) actually being able to move my mouse 100% of the time or b.) having the buttons do what they're supposed to rather than the default settings. I chose the later, but it's really frustrating that I have to, considering my mouse worked fine on the previous version of SetPoint.

Anyone know an easy way to roll back to the previous version of SetPoint? Or do I have to go back to whatever version came on my mouse's CD?

Oh, and BTW, this is the Logitech "Answer" to this problem:

Yeah. Thanks Logitech. It was working before, you broke it, and now you act like I'm doing something wrong by using an extension cord with your crummy USB receiver. Wonderful.

Re: SetPoint 4.60 is available for download...

I haven't upgraded to a new setpoint in a very long time because the last time I tried it I spent several hours getting everything back to the way I had it, and there weren't any new functional features. I also use uberoptions, a big thank you very very much rlowens for that. I'm on ver. 3.30.165 btw.

I do have two problems with the mouse though, the software keeps repopulating the "manage programs" listing. I only change two programs, Autocad and IE for different keystrokes. The buttons I've changed then don't work when I'm in other programs that I never included under manage programs as I've got the buttons set so that they open either IE or Windows Explorer in all other programs. How do I get the program to stop populating "manage program" listing with other programs? The second issue is that the batteries are not holding a charge for as long as they used to. I'm not sure when I bought the mouse and when the warranty expires. I sure would like to find out but searching through a few years worth of receipts isn't my idea of fun. I wonder if I registered the mouse and if there's a date. Do I need a receipt for a warranty claim?

To remove the default program profiles, re-install uberOptions and select the "No default forward/back profiles" options. You will need to re-setup your button.

You should be covered under the 3 or 5 year warranty from Logitech.
See here for RMA info. They don't always require the receipt, as they can tell the manufacture date from the serial number.

What model of mouse do you have? If you are out of warranty with am MX1000 or MX Revolution, see http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/?n=Logitech.MX1000Battery or http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/?n=Logitech.MXRevolutionBattery

Re: SetPoint 4.60 is available for download...

MX 1000, Vista Business 32bit. After upgrading automatically updating to Setpoint 4.60 I get a pop-up that says my mouse batteries are critical each time I set the mouse in the cradle or boot up. The Setpoint applet however says my batteries are full. When I downgraded to 4.4 (the most recent older version I had on hand) the pop-ups went away. Software bug?

Re: SetPoint 4.60 is available for download...

I've also installed this piece of crap called SetPoint 4.6 and here's what's the result:

- button assignment for key "ENTER" doesn't work.
- WHEEL ZOOM (thumb scroll) doesn't work the way it did (reversed, after installing uberoptions not working at all)
- middle button function for the thumb scroll doesn't work

I installed uberoptions because I hoped it would make it work, but it didnt.

I'm so pissed because I used the "Enter" key very often (assigned to BACK key) and right now I'm just nowhere. I've tried uninstalling SetPoint 4.6 and installing 4.00 but it didn't help either..

Any ideas what to do with it?

Re: SetPoint 4.60 is available for download...

[ Edited ]
I had XP Pro SP2 and SP3 plus SetPoint 4.40 working flawlessy with my G7 for over 6 months. Then today I had the unfortunate idea of downloading version 4.60, and after installing and rebooting, no mouse options would show up on the settings utility, just the tools tab.

I then uninstalled both SetPoint and the mouse, rebooted, and reinstalled SetPoint. Now the mouse options appear on the settings utility, but the mouse has turned into an "unknown device" under the mice category in the device manager, and on every reboot XP detects as new hardware a "Logitech hid-compliant mouse", but then shows a window saying that the device couldn't be installed because of a "fatal error". Curiously, the settings utility do affect the mouse, though.

Already tried uninstalling everything a couple of times (both in normal and safe mode), manually deleted lots of entries related to SetPoint and the mouse from the registry, but the same thing keeps happening every time I try to reinstall SetPoint and the mouse.

Since this is not the first time a simple driver upgrade messes up the mouse installation, I wonder what's up with Logitech's programming team - don't they have the resources to test a new driver release thoroughly enough before releasing it to the public? And if people with considerable experience with various OS's have a hard time sorting out these problems, I can only imagine the trouble the completely unexperienced users who just want to have their devices running must be finding themselves into.
