Setpoint and G9: Not detecting applications being run

[ Edited ]
Long time user of the g7, just got a g9 to replace it. The problem I have run into is this: my profiles are not automatically switching like they should when I go into a new program.

For example, for warcraft 3 I made a new profile, and assigned the war3.exe (just as I did with the g7) to it. However, when in game none of the keys change. I have the LED light set to a different color than the default, and it remains the default color. I have tested this with other programs, such as firefox, and the keys are still not working.

I had no trouble getting the g7 to work correctly, and it switched profiles without any trouble. I am not certain why it would not be doing so now. I have the most recent setpoint for the g9, and all other drivers are up to date. Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!

Edit1: Automatic switching IS enabled. (I can successfully switch profiles manually using the other option.

I am having this problem as well, running on Vista with Setpoint 5.00.175.

This problem is affecting me also for Warcraft III. Quite disappointing since my G7 worked fine when auto-switching. It appears that it detects the program correctly on initial launch, but if I alt-tab out and back in, then it fails to auto-switch back to my Warcraft III profile.

Also on vista 32 with setpoint 4 installed concurrently. Auto-switching working fine for firefox at least.

I'm having the very same problem with Vista 32bit and SetPoint 5.00.175.

SetPoint does not recognize Battlefield 2 correctly and does not switch to gaming profile when it's started. Also the button assignments don't work even for the general profile.

If I clean the assigned applications list and re-enter bf2.exe and hit Apply & Ok, it may occasionally work, but after rebooting automatic detection stops working again.

I'm seeing Vista mentioned a lot in this thread. Try quitting out of that sidebar app that Windows installed and see if there's any improvement with the game detection.

Thanks for the tip. Too bad I'm not using sidebar at all (it's like the first thing I turn off after installing Windows :smileyhappy: ) There is one thing I noticed, however. Game detection seem to work better when there is only one game on the list.

Unfortunately it doesn't affect general profile, which keeps ignoring my button assignments all the time. Only way to get them working again is opening SetPoint and hitting Apply & Ok without any changes.

Huh, that's odd :smileywink:

Try this: Make sure your general profile is on the onboard memory of the mouse, apply and OK to flash the save to the firmware of the mouse, then uninstall SetPoint 5. Lets see what happens when the mouse is left entirely to control things via it's memory and no software... I'd apply some strange button combination right before doing this, like "forward" button issuing a "Q" keystroke, then test to see if it keeps it's profile info properly.

I came across this thread, I am having a similar problem (with problems of application detection of BF2) and am wondering if there are any updates on this?

One thing, I saw another thread where it was suggested to see what was running in task manager to ensure it was BF2.exe that was being executed. It is, HOWEVER, I noticed that in task manager it is called "BF2.exe *32". If the G9 is looking for an exact match to bf2.exe, would this mess it up?

PS: The reason I am using app detect is I don't want to have to push a button on the bottom of my mouse to switch profiles, am I able to switch profiles manually with SetPoint? (my lack of knowledge of the app showing here)

Re: Setpoint and G9: Not detecting applications being run

Fix you suggested doesn't work and I am having the same problem.  Gaming mouse that doesn't switch profiles for games = regular mouse.  I am very dissapointed in it especially since it cost the same as the G-15 but it doesn't do anything.

I, too, am having the same problem. However, I am NOT using Vista. Instead, I'm using the next worst thing (XP Pro 32 bit SP3). Everything worked fine (even after installing SP3) until a few days ago, when the Setpoint software started acting strangely. The hardware abstraction executable (KHALMNPR.exe) has started using 50% of my CPU (AMD 5000+ Black Edition) and the setting for application detection will not stay set (set it, apply, close settings screen, come back to settings and it is unset). I'd like to see some kind of definitive answer to the problem that doesn't involve not using the software.

Edit : Also tried manually selecting profiles in memory in the mouse and this is not functional either.
