Mice - Software

This is a seriously annoying bug that did not occur on the old version of setpoint.

PC is practically brand new, mouse is a 2 years or so old. Issue occurred after update to 4.60 Vista x64

Hopefully you guys can actually test this in your lab so you can see what we mean

Step 1: Install setpoint 4.60 with MX1000 laser mouse on Vista x64 PC
Step 2: Place mouse in cradle
Step 3: Observe "BATTERIES ARE CRITICAL MESSAGE". Every. Single. Time.

Unless this is a warning that my mouse is about to die... then I wanna know why the battery has gone out so fast (should last 3+ years right?)

Hi Guys,

I have also had this problem for months (1 reported in April), its
clear there is an issue and its not an installation/computer problem.

Logitech need to get someone who understands the driver to look at
this and sort it out.

I have jumped through enough hoops unpluging, re installing etc. Why
do users have to do all the debugging before Logitech find a real
solution.

Each time I reinstall I also lose all my mouse and keyboard settings,
so more time is lost fixing a Logitech design flaw.

Logitech, please get hold of a setup with the issue and find out whats
going on, so we can all get on with our lives.

Hey guys,

Seems to be I also have the critical batteries error.
The day before yesterday I updated my Setpoint drivers
when I got a pop-up message there were new available.
Ever since it updated, I get the "Critical batteries" message
when I put the mouse in the charger.
Ofcourse I've read all pages of this topic to see if they could
be of any use, but nothing helped. My guess would be that the
downloaded drivers have some sort of bug, else I wouldn't have a clue.

I have the same problem:

Just installed Vista 64bit so got the latest driver from Logitech (4.60.42.0) and installed it. now getting the batteries critical message.

Does anyone one have an answer for this?

These mice are not cheap: where's the support?

Same error here:

Setpoint Control Center and Controller version: 4.60.122
Windows XP: 2600.xpsp.080413-2111 (Service Pack 3) totally up to date.

This symptoms are perfectly reproducible:


Start PC: battery levels seems to be ok in Setpoint.
Once i'm logged in windows xp i put the mouse on the dock: appears the "critical batteries" message, and battery icon next to windows clock.
I take the mouse from dock and work with it: inmediately battery icon dissapear, checking batteries in Setpoing are reported as ok.

It is an annoying bug, because you don't know if your mouse is going to get out of batteries or it is just the bug, but as somebody claims, this is not a cheap-unknown-branded mouse, it is one of the most expensive and better mouse from Logitech, in fact mouse is very good, great precision and very comfortable. Hope Logitech take care of this easy to reproduce bug and solve it as soon as possible.

It doesn't seem like they care to fix this.  1/2 a year already, no fix for something this irritating...

When I buy a mouse, I expect it to be properly supported for the next 5 years give or take.  My MX1000 isn't quite that old yet, and already the software support is apparently nonexistent.  My next mouse will probably *shudder* be a M$ mouse because they continue to support their non-newest products properly via their drivers.

After consigning my MX 1000 to the bin due to the Critical Battery warning, like a fool I went and bought a Logitech G9 Mouse (not cheap).

After continual problems with the software (half the time would not wake up with the PC from sleep mode necessitating a reboot) it now resides in a desk drawer.

I am now back to using Microsoft's Intellimouse Explorer and guess what it works flawlessly ALL THE TIME. Oh and guess what, so does their MS Wireless Keyboard. I do "shudder" but hey we need these things to work everytime.

There is obviously a bug with the newer versions of setpoint because I have tried my mx1000 mouse on 3 computers with windows xp now and it still shows up as batteries are critical when I put the mouse on the cradle (using usb), its fine when I plug the mouse cradle into the mouse socket on the board its only when I use the usb when the problem starts.

This is the second mx1000 mouse I have used and this does the same as the first one.

So with this in mind it cannot be any of the computers and it cannot be the cradle it has to be the SOFTWARE .

There are a lot of people out there with this mouse and have exactly the same problem when using it with the usb socket, are you trying to say that we are all at fault and the software is fine??

So come on, bring out a version of the software that works with XP

through the usb ports.

I am currently using version 3.1 and this works fine with xp through the usb ports so why cant you make a new version that works with the usb ports as this version does. Not brainy enough I suppose, lift up the carpet and sweep it under dont matter about your customers

Sorry to be repeating myself but I myself have had this problem with setpoint for a long time now and I have been banging my head against a brick wall with logitech "help", always being told to un-install then re-install then press the connect button on the mouse, do this, do that, dont do that ,re-do this, re-do that, and all the time its not my fault , it is the softwares fault.

So come on and get it working

Same problem here. I've had the MX1000 for years now and every now and then my Windows XP gets stuck with the "Your MX 1000 Laser Mouse's Batteries Are Critical" -error, even though the battery is well charged. 

A few already re-repeated facts for the Logitech personnel who are reading this thread:

1) The software is correctly installed

2) The battery is properly charged

3) The mouse is installed (plugged in), and is turned on

4) The mouse works fine

5) The user is not an idiot

The error message just. won't. go. away.

If you can't fix the problem, let us even remove the whole warning*. We all can see when the battery is out of juice. It's bad enough that a MOUSE DRIVER PACKAGE is over 60 megabytes in size. One might think that any of the the codeslave-masterminds at Logitech could fix this puny bug.

The reputation of Logitech is at stake here, people. Thanks in advance and happy incoming holidays.

* A simple checkbox will do: 

          Agonize the user with a small warning icon that won't go away even if Hell froze over when the battery is low present [X]

PS. Propose reconnecting, reinstalling, recharging or repositioning anything once more and I'll never buy anything from Logitech again.
