After roughly a year and a half my MX revolution is finally showing signs of use. When I single-click the left mouse button it sometimes registers it as a double-click or even a triple-click. So say I want to make a selection of text, I hold down the left button to click and drag, but this may take a few tries because the mouse makes it difficult to single-click. Another thing that happens is when I launch the IE browser from my quicklaunch bar. It only requires one click, but sometimes I end up with 2-4 browser windows popping up at once, lol. I expect this to occur more often over time.
The mouse was sold to me at Staples, and I remember how happy I was when I just bought it. If there isn't any advice anyone here can give me on a way to fix this annoying problem, guess it's time for me to bid adieu to my MX soon.

no words of wisdom, but only 1.5 years - it should still be in warranty period and replacable.

And here I was thinking it was only mine! I searched Google but found only one issue with the same Left Click button problem. It was for another Logitech mouse. Mine is also about 1.5 years old and the problem started a week ago with the Double Clicking/No Left Clicks register issue. Tried it on another PC, same issue. Removed drivers, same issue. Adjusted the Windows Click Speed, same issue. I must say this is a great mouse for features etc. However the MX 1000 is more comfortable and is still in use today after 4 plus years. I gave it to my brother who is using it as I type this. Battery life after 4 years is of course shorter on the MX 1000 but all buttons are clicking away nicely.
I think we will see more Left Click button issues this year for the MX Revo. Wear and Tear (After such a short period) for such an expensive mouse does not look good for Logitech. I have a feeling that they are already gearing (no pun intended) up for the pending issues other MX Revo. users will start to report. I went out today and purchased the MX 5500 Revo. combo. The store did not have just the mouse
Well I got a new keyboard but still like my G15 with plugins better. So now I have two keyboards, one Wired and one Wireless. Yeah!
I see that the Bluetooth version of the MX Revo. that came with the MX 5500 combo has only a few small design changes. 1. The Search button on my old MX Revo. is shiny silver and the same button on the BT/MX 5500 Revo. is shiny black. 2. The Thumb Wheel instead of being the same shiny silver as the Search Button is a dull aluminum color. Makes it look cheap next to the original MX Revo. The BT/MX 5500 Revo. mouse has a sparkly finish on the main body so I guess this makes it look more eye candy-ish? I prefer the shiny accents of the original MX Revo. instead. But I'm being picky because I have never really noticed the shiny silver accents on the Search Button and Thumb Wheel before now! Weird.
Peace, PP

Wow, that's some good info there, PurgatoryPriest. And at this pricepoint you should deserve to be picky, nothing wrong with that.
And thanks Taswegian for that helpful bit of info. I'll try updating the drivers again, switching usb ports, and all that jazz before I try to activate the warranty. Didn't know it was for 3 years, I just hope they don't expect me to have kept my receipt after all this time.
After some googling I found archives of this same problem posted on the logitech forums here and here, as well as a similar problem with a G5 here. Sooo, ...guess I'll give troubleshooting a shot first and see what gives.

Hi
,
If you find that a warranty replacement is necessary, please e-mail Customer Support to process your claim. In the event that you no longer have a receipt, please mention this in the e-mail. We'll find an alternative method to process the warranty replacement.

I am on my fourth MX Revolution mouse - and I have two more as spares that I got on sale for a really low price at Amazon.com a few months ago.
I find that I get only about six months with most of them - one lasted a little more than eight months. But I do use my keyboard and mouse a good 10 hours a day. It's simple really - the microswitches under the button used the most (left, of course) wears out. After that the mouse will not operate well again unless you replace the microswitch. If you googled the problem then you no doubt saw a fix for this. You can replace the microswitch yourself - I've done it - but that does void your warranty of course.
Honestly though, a year and a half using a mouse like the MX Revolution is darned good! The price of the mouse has absolutely nothing to do with its sturdiness or its expected life span; the price is high because it is a complex mouse with a heck of a lot more parts than most mouses you might have used in the past. If anything the complexity of the mouse makes it more subject to failure, not less.
I had one of my MX Revolutions replaced by Logitech. If another fails in less than six months then I will ask for another replacement. Longer, and I just toss it in my "retired" equipment box, for me to possibly attempt to replace the switch on it if I get the time.

I would have agreed with your statements if my MX Revolution was say, 3 years old. Not 1.5 years old. If your theory is correct in regards to the microswitches (left one especially) wearing out overtime because of use, don't you then think that Logitech should have done more R&D and made sure that they used 'stronger' parts or overbuild the micorswitches to a state in which the wear and tear would not be apparent until at least 4 years or so. Say 50,000 hours of constant use maybe? Yes, for the price of the MX Revolution, I expect better from Logitech. Complexity issues in all mechanical products/devices are not the same, I agree. However if these complex parts are more prone to failure because of their complex designs etc, again maybe, Logitech should take note and overbuild so that the wear and tear overtime if less noticeable rather than becoming an outright failure or have a shorter life expectancy.
The point I'm trying to make is, I drive a 1997 (12 year old) Toyota Windom (In the USA it is known as the Lexus ES 300) and I can't believe that ALL mechanical/electrical gearing/functions (Power windows, Power seats, Power outside mirrors, In-Dash sound system with 7" screen - made by Pioneer) are still functional when I press/pull their micoswitches/rocker buttons. They are slower than I'm sure as when the car was new, but are still working fine in 2009. Why? Toyota has overbuilt the devices and used better parts/gearing etc. Wear and Tear is expected, but again not something I would have expected from Logitech. I still will buy from them only because of all the products I've bought and still own from Logitech, the MX Revolution is the only item that has failed before its time, prematurely I should say.
That's my opinion, I could be wrong.
Peace, PP

Hi
,
In most cases, the MX Revolution should be expected to last as long as it's warranty period (which incidentally is also the life span of the battery). However, this is not taking into account things like higher than normal rate of use, environmental factors and any accidents that might occur while the mouse was in transit and when it is in storage at the store and any other unexpected mishaps.
P.S I've been using a MX Revolution for about 1.5 years now (about 6-8 hours of use 5 days a week); aside from some issues getting it to charge, its still working great![]()

Heck, I would have thought that my $40,000 truck would last a lifetime then! And one could expect tires at $220 each to last at least, oh, 10 - 15 years! I wish a doggone computer would last longer (or at least the hard drives!) at these prices!
Don’t seem to happen that way, though... Oh well.
Jim
Edit: BTW, Purgatory, it probably seemed like I was razzing you a bit but I wasn’t really. Just explaining how I see it now. I felt pretty much like you did when my first MX failed. But now I just see it as another consumable. I had mice that lasted a looong time, but then again they had hardly any parts, and they were like little mini-tanks. But I wouldn’t go back to one either!

So, Chewy my man (or woman - can't really tell!), Ishould go ahead andget my other MX Revolutions replaced? I've had three fail and got a replacement for only one of those. And I am using another - which is due to fail shortly, by my calculations. And I have another two I got on sale for $30 something each. They are sitting in my closet as my next "victims"!
