Do Expensive Mouse Pads Make Difference?

I love my MX Revolution and would like to know whether expensive mouse pads (>$30) are worth the money. I'm using a $2.99 pad that I bought at Target and it does the job. However, as I read glowing user reviews of expensive pads at Newegg, I get more and more interested in buying one of them.

Re: Do Expensive Mouse Pads Make Difference?

well, you can stick to the mousepad that you have and just make sure it is light colored and plan is possible. U can see that the mouse will glide better on a white mousepad. Expensive mousepad would not be my choice as my mouse seems to work fine as long as it is a light color

Re: Do Expensive Mouse Pads Make Difference?

Like you KlausK, I had a $2 mouse mat (mine was from K-Mart :smileytongue: ) and I thought that if these others cost so much more there must be something to them or people wouldn't buy them.

I was wrong.  I bought a mouse mat at EB Games that was reduced from $50 to $20 at a stocktake sale.  I have not noticed any difference whatsoever other than the dimensions of the new mat mean I don't run out of room as often.

Hi,

What really makes a difference is tha color of the mouse pad. Dark colored mousepads generally don't work very well. Light/white mouse pads are best for optimum performance.

Thank you for your support and have a nice day:smileyhappy:

Depends what you are going to use it for, if you notice the expensive mousemats are almost only designed for gaming, and if you are a gamer you will see why they get those glowing reviews once you have tried one for a few minutes, the mouse glides on them almost as if it were on an air hockey table (maybe a slight exaggeration, but your mouse does glide on them extremely smoothly)
But if your not a "hardcore" gamer and don't spend allot of time playing games, it would be a waste of money to spend $30/£15+ on a mousemat, but if you do a little gaming and can afford to spend the money on a mat then you will never go back to gaming on a "normal" mat again, trust me!

@HalJordan: Can't say I have ever noticed a black mousemat having inferior performance, and I think if it was actually affecting performance enough to be a problem the designers of the high grade & gaming mats would use white, they tend to use black 9/10 so I can't see it having much of an effect, if any at all.

Re: Do Expensive Mouse Pads Make Difference?

A blactk mousepad can drain battery power more compared to a light colour mat. Plus if there is drawing on the mat, it can interupt the performance of the mouse. I have tested this different kind of surface and this is my findings

Re: Do Expensive Mouse Pads Make Difference?

I have used a black (X-RayPad Thunder 9) mouse pad for a few years and have been happy with it. (I do not use a wireless mouse.) Also, most of the gamers I know use black mouse pads. (both cloth and plastic)

If you are using a corded mouse, I think the texture of the pad plays as, or more of an, important a role as the color, but I would also assume it depends partially on the mouse. I have heard from mouse manufacturers that the black pads are not as accurate, but have never heard a gamer complain about it.

Re: Do Expensive Mouse Pads Make Difference?

You might not have heard much here in the forums but when you receive calls and emails from customers, shows there are some gamers having problem with black mousepad especially when they are using a cordless mouse
