Mice and Pointing Devices

Hi,

I've recently bought a G700 mouse for my laptop.

I've installed SetPoint (Downloaded version 6.32, installer says it's 6.32, but when I run it, under SetPoint Options I see SetPoint version 5.46.10, even tried reinstalling, just to make sure I installed the right thing, didn't help).

This is on Windows 7, 32bit.

So when I picked the G700 I saw the SetPoint option to "Use OS native drivers", or what was interesting to me was how NOT to use that, so that I may keep my trackpad working as well.

I like my gaming mouse to be a gaming mouse, so I want 0 acceleration.

The trackpad unfortunately is something else of a story, since it's practically unusable without acceleration.

So I've installed the mouse, and here's what I tried:

1. Unchecked the "Use OS native drivers", set 0 acceleration, clicked apply.

Neither mouse nor trackpad have acceleration now.

2. Gone to windows mouse settings, clicked "Enhance pointer precision", Apply.

Both mouse and trackpad have acceleration.

3. Go back to SetPoint, make sure I had set the options for the current profile, set the options the same for all 3 profiles, clicked apply.

Both mouse and trackpad had no acceleration.

4. Gone back to native settings, "Enhance p precision", Apply.

Both have acceleration.

5. Read forums, yes, it's possible.

6. Try again, double-check everything, didn't work.

7. Download synaptics driver for trackpad. Oooh, new multi-touch trackpad features, nice.

Enhance pointer precision, Apply.

Both have acceleration.

8. Go to SetPoint, "Use OS native drivers" unchecked, apply.

Both have NO acceleration.

How can one set:

trackpad -> acceleration

mouse -> no acceleartion

Different speeds are also an issue, as they are quite different devices.

At one point, I started to see if different settings will apply if i leave the "Use OS native drivers" checkbox checked, but it didn't work either.

I've just came back to a Logitech mouse after years of razer mice, thinking I miss the feel of my old mx510.

I used to use a Razer Lachesis with my laptop until now, it's software knew that mouse != trackpad.

Here's how I fixed my problem:

I returned my Logitech G700 mouse and bought a Razer 2012 Mamba in place.

The unboxing alone was a lot of fun for the Razer mouse, the feel is also much better.

PS: Thanks Logitech staff for removing some of my posts, good thing you have time to moderate posts, but not to answer them.

This is very disappointing information.  I do not have a track pad, but I need 2 profiles.

The first profile I want at a VERY hi DPI with "OS native drivers for pointer speed and acceleration" checked so I can slow it down with Windows.

The 2nd profile I want low DPI and to set my speed and accel with the setpoint software.

I did the above, but when I switch profiles, it keeps the setpoint drivers for speed and accel instead of switching to the OS native drivers on profile 1.

I did a few things to mess with it and found that when I have the Windows mouse settings open, all I had to do was click on the speed slider thingy and it snapped to the speed I wanted for profile 1.  Then everytime I switch to profile 2 it goes back to the setpoint driver for speed/accel, THEN stays there no matter what profile I switch to.

This seems to be a bug in the set point software that's not letting the profile button on the mouse change the driver from setpoint speed/accel to OS native speed/accel.

Any info or help would be appreciated.

Ok.. so with more fumbling around, I found that setting the speed and acceleration in the SetPoint software WITH "Use OS native drivers for pointer speed and addeleration" checked, actually changes the Windows speed bar.  They both have 10 levels of speed, but they don't seem to line up very well.

It's still a bit confusing, but if you check the "OS native" box, use the SetPoint speed and accel sliders anyway.

Does that make sense?  I wonder if it's really working
