The M515 mouse has a built-in proximity sensor to prevent accidental activation while being used on a couch, ie having the mouse track if the couch is bumped or have the mouse click if it gets stuck between the cushions. This feature is controlled by the firmware of the mouse. Due to customer's requests to allow the M515's sensors to be turned off, we've released the ProxiTool.

NOTE: This software rewrites the instructions directly to the firmware of the mouse. Because of this, we recommend only using this software when necessary and to minimize the number of changes to the mouse's firmware state.

To change the proximity sensor's behavior:

1. Download the ProxiTool from:

   ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/mouse/ProxiTool_1_00_15_GM.zip

2. Extract the .zip file, then open ProxiTool.exe

3. A detection screen will display. It will count down while it looks for a M515 mouse.

   

4. When the mouse is detected, the screen will change.

   

5. In this window, you will be able to enable individual parts of the mouse to ignore the proximity sensor. If an item is checked, it will ignore the proximity sensor for that function.

   • If all 3 are checked, the mouse will ignore the proximity sensor completely.
   • If all 3 are unchecked, the mouse proximity sensor will function with out-of-box behavior (This is the default state of the mouse).
   • You can pick any combination of the above options for the sensor.

6. When you have made the selections you want, they click Close to write the data to the mouse's memory.

Yes but .exe doesn't work on a mac now does it???  I did the hardware modification by removing the white flat wire from the top board, so what about warranty, its just a flipping mouse for gods sake.  It works better now than before, and, oh, thanks for the mac support Logitech.  Logitech m515= Last logitech product I will EVER buy.

Why don't you guys make this software available on other operating systems like mac and linux? I bought your product and I really do want to disable that hand recognition technology, it's pretty much annoying, but I can't do it on linux unless voiding warranty... Why didn't you include some sort of switch on the mouse so we could enable or disable on our own? Thus being said, I expect you to implement it not only on windows but on linux and mac too! The mouse itself is great, except for this one disadvantage, please do it fast it's not a big deal. Please respond, so we could know if you are willing to implement this configuration tool on other operating systems.

At least you guys are getting some feature, some of us can't even get a double click function for the scroll wheel on much simpler mice. (i.e. M215)

Does anybody know how much impact on battery life this update will cause?  I know its a trade-off.

I was hoping for a solution allowing me to set the timeout period to maybe 30 seconds or more.  This would have met my needs and still limited the impact on battery life. 

Oh well, batteries are pretty cheap these days...

Is there a Mac version? The hand proximity sensor (and its supposed usefulness, umm, what?) is really annoying. So I'm just supposed to get used to the cursor sometimes not moving at all (kind of defeats the purpose of a mouse now doesn't it) and say good work Logitech. No option to disable it, no nothing. I paid good money for this product. My email to support was replied to by an automated message saying basically that "your issue cannot be answered via email". I'm not calling abroad on some expensive support lines just because your support team cannot seem to type! It is perfectly achievable to express via email is there a Mac version or some manual tweak I can use (by opening the mouse) that would disable it. Come on Logitech!

I'm under the impression there are three sensors: left, right, and Logitech logo. I find that my hand is big enough that I don't actually cover the logo most of the time. Or if I'm using it on the couch, the mouse is so low on the seat beside me that I don't hold it in the traditional way (my hand is almost vertical over the mouse). Is it possible to only disable the sensor under the Logitech logo?
