Logitech Notice Locks up Computer

The Logitech notice about autmatic downloads of updates appears regularly on my computer.  If I do anything but delete it without processing it locks the screen.  At that point I cannot delete it even when using the End Program of the Task Manger.  What is happening and how can I stop it?

Re: Logitech Notice Locks up Computer

I am not sure what you mean by "Delete it", but here goes:

The easiest way deal with annoyances like this is probably to turn off the update check process.

Logitech releases updates rarely, and I have yet to receive one that adds anything to the way things work on an old device, so I prefer to do updates manually.

You can turn them off in SetPoint

>Tools

>Web updates

>Configure

>Uncheck

You should also check your Startup folder for anything nasty that might be lurking in there.

Re: Logitech Notice Locks up Computer

MichaelKenward,  Thanks for the input, but I tried it and it didn't work.  The messages keep showing up.  I checked my startup folder, but there was a ton of items in it, none of which I recognized.  I suppose I could just delete them all, but I'm concerned about doing that.

By "deleting" I meant clicking the exit "X" in the upper right hand corner.  Any other action locks up my screen.  The mouse pointer still works, but nothing happens when I click on anything.  I have to restart to clear it.

Re: Logitech Notice Locks up Computer

A crowded startup folder is an accident, or more, waiting to happen.

Too much software puts things there without delivering any benefit to the user. It also slows things down and eats up your memory, the computer's that is.

The other place to troubleshoot things like this is "msconfig", which also controls what starts up with the PC, and has better information on what things are doing. This is a bit techie, so you probably need to read up on it a bit before diving in.
