Mice and Pointing Devices

My M510 has been working flawlessly till lately. I can move my pointer up and down fine, but left to right it barely moves. For example if I wanted to draw a circle it would be more like an oval, skinny on the sides and long top to bottom. I don't think it has to do with software. Or maybe it does. Anyone have any ideas?

Also shouldn't my mouse work on most surfaces? it only works on micepads.
