M705 erratic jumpy pointer

Brand new mouse purchased as part of MK710.

The pointer makes odd movements. Not randomly by itself, but it does not respond consistently to my input.

For example, I make a screen capture of me moving my mouse a fixed distance (on my desk) repeatedly.

First, I used my old mouse a logitech MX700.  At about 11 seconds in I start using the M705.

I always move the mouse a fixed distance on my desk in the video.  In theory the mouse should always move the same distance. No problem with the mx700, it is  very consistent.

However, The M705 randomly will make a large jump up or down as you can see in the video.  Again, I never compensate for the large movements and always move my mouse a fixed distance on my desk.

This makes the mouse unusable.

I'm using the latest setpoint 6.32.7 and driver 5.33.14

I have tried:

1.) cleaning the lens gently with compressed air.

2.) changing the surface I use my mouse on (mousepad, piece of paper, wood desk)

3.) unplugging, and uninstalling from device mananger my mx700 mouse completely (initially had both installed)

4.) using the extension cable to move the unifying receiver very close to the mouse (and unplugging my wifi router)

5.) restarting my computer

6.) I have adjusted the sensitivity to match what I am used to, that is not the issue.

7.) I turned off (and on, and off again) mouse acceleration.  No difference (Actually, slightly worse with acceleration)

I have a core i3 computer and cpu usage is <10% memory usage is <25%.  Again, my mx700 mouse still works well, at least until I uninstalled and unplugged it for testing as above.

Please let me know if there is a way to fix this otherwise I guess I will have to RMA it.

Re: M705 erratic jumpy pointer

Hello pjo,

Please remove the batteries from your mouse and with the batteries removed press the left and right mouse button repeatedly for about 15 seconds.  This will cause any residual power remaining in the mouse to be eliminated causing the mouse to be reset.  Re-install your batteries (or replace with new fresh batteries) and test your mouse again.  If you continue to have problems, I would suggest contacting Customer Care for your region for further assistance and a possible warranty replacement.

I hope this helps you out.

Sincerely

thank you for the suggestion.  I tried that procedure to reset the mouse, and I still have the same problem.

Re: M705 erratic jumpy pointer

You have contacted customer's support and what happened?  I have the same problem with M705 and I had the same problem with the old mouse since I got a new computer (Dell) with Win7.

Re: M705 erratic jumpy pointer -

Having same issue, VERY FRUSTRATING !

Read other comments & followed advice (take batteries out, click buttons, clean laser, changed receiver USB port from back of PC to the front of PC only 15 inches away from mouse) and makes not difference.  Seemed very good for about 3-4 months then bang, like using an old style mouse with a ball with rollers covered in fluff.  Only reason I bought the m705 was the outstanding performance of my MX700 and MX1000, I only changed from mx1000 as it looked dirty and tatty,  would happily bin my m705 if it hadn't cost so much (even at trade price as Im in the IT supply business)

Personally I think it is too sensitive to household dust, pet hair etc which didnt affect my old MX series in the same way.  We don't have pets but neighbours cat always sneaking in and my office has laminate floor, so can get a bit dusty quickly.

M705 used with an i7 PC with ooodles of resources, also use a Razer eXact Mat as mousing surface which also is unusable with the smoother fast side (which works with every other mouse I have owned) so have to use with the rougher slower surface.  No good on my desk either.

Am constantly looking for the magic fix on the forums and the web but starting to feel like its a forlorn hope,  pain in the proverbial having to sort out returns and customer services but thats where Im heading if no solution appears in next few days.

In the meantime I have to go back to my i7 overclocked PC with 24" IPS panel and plug in a wired £5 oem mouse, not good!

Re: M705 erratic jumpy pointer -

I have that issue too for couple of weeks and i think it is a sw compatibility issue. swapping unifying receiver among usb ports sometimes helps, sometimes swapping receivers (i've got another with solar kbd) but thats crazy, like something filters data between the receiver and driver.. also when i luckily make it working and sleep my PC after wake up it doesn't work again.
My opinion is that it is either some MS update causing it or DELL driver (latitude E6420, win 7 x64)
