Hi,
I recently purchased a performance mouse MX, and the middle-click behavior has been driving me nuts. I had an MX Revolution and upgraded to the performance mouse MX for the better recharging option (no more stupid recharging pads that no longer conduct).
Unfortunately, the middle-clicking behavior on this mouse is a nightmare. I have to click in a very particular fashion in the right direction and with the exact amount of pressure in order for the click to register. That's not to say that I have to click with force, just that it's a very precise movement that triggers a middle click, too much or too little force means I feel a click but it doesn't register.
I want to know if this is a known issue or if I have a faulty mouse and should RMA it for another. Is there a faulty batch of Performance Mouse MX mice out there, or is it just a badly engineered revision 1.0?
Thanks.

Note that not all of them have problems (mine works fine) so you probably want to exchange it.

Thanks, Richard.
When I first saw that post, the OP was talking about the middle mouse button not working entirely, but I now see that the thread has turned into the same discussion as my question here.
I guess I'll wait a month and then contact Logitech for a replacement... Only problem is that I'm studying overseas and I'll have to ship the mouse from and to Jordan in the Middle East (and past customs).
Anyway, thanks for your reply... and thanks for uberoptions, which is just plain great ![]()

Hi!
I know this thread is a little dated, but I just purchased a Performance Mouse MX from Amazon and the scrollwheel button is still exactly the way you describe. It has to be pushed hard and a little to the right for it to click, and even then it is quite unreliable (missing clicks about 25% of the time unless i press really really hard). Trying to get used to this middle-click is giving me hand cramps and is generally very uncomfortable to use, mostly since I am used to constantly middle-clicking in many applications.
I am not sure what to do. I could try to send it back for a new one, but from what I've been reading here it is quite probable that I will just receive another one with the same defect. I will contact Amazon over the weekend to see if it is possible to exchange it for a different Logitech mouse, or a different mouse alltogether.
It is really unfortunate, because other than the middle button this mouse is great.

Exact same issue here. Sometimes it'll click fine, but others it's as if it's not even a button at all. It's a bit of a roulette; whenever I turn the wheel, there's a chance the button won't want to be clicked for a fair few tries. Very disappointing, especially in such an otherwise exquisite mouse.
I've worked around it for now by remapping the 'zoom' button to middle click. That's far from ideal though... that's one extra button I was hoping to make use of (a key factor in deciding upon this mouse), and now I have to retrain my hand somewhat.
Love the device on the whole, but the wheel button just isn't up to scratch.

I've just bought Logitech Performance MX and I think it's awesome!
First of all, let me assure you: the middle button of MX Performance is not bad, and it works perfectly 100% of the time.
If you look at the mouse from the back, flush with the top, there will be clear that the wheel is tilted slightly to the left. It is obvious that this is a deliberate feature.
To use the middle button click, then, simply place your finger on the left, in line with the tilt wheel. If positioned right, as someone may be used instead, the click will not work.
Only a few minutes are needed to get used to the new location, and run the middle click to perfection.

I've been discussing this issue with Support for the last week and they never mentioned this. Now that you've pointed it out Im inclicned to agree with you . Just takes a little getting used to. I am a 3D CAD designer and hit that button hundreds if not several hundred times a day. Was driving me nuts as this was happenening with my previous Revolution MX too (albeit to a lesser extent). Thanks for your input.

Just took delivery of my new MX Performance and within 2 hours of opeing the box, I am browsing the Logitech forums as the middle click button is driving me crazy!
Like the original poster, I have upgraded from the MX Revolution which has served me extremely well over the years. I agree that the scroll wheel is certainly tilted to the left and the finger placement is critical.
I never use side scrolling from the scroll wheel so I disabled it in setpoint and it has totally solved the middle click issue for me. It is working 100% of the time now no matter how clumsy I am with my finger placement.
I realise it won't suit everyone but for those of you who don't side scroll, it may provide a quick fix.
Happy it's not the mouse and just my fat fingers ![]()
