Mice and Pointing Devices

Add me to the list of people who wants no other pointing device besides the corded Trackman Wheel.  Been using them for 12 years now - no fatigue, no wireless hassles (batteries, interference, losing receiver, restrictions on planes, etc.).

Can anyone find user reviews where the average is below 4 1/2 stars?

I just don't understand why a product line with stellar reviews and consistent demand (although admittedly small) would be cancelled.  There is no ongoing cost for development, and as shown by eBay, people are very willing to pay more than they were being sold for previously.

But the decision has been made, apparently, and after about a year, it seems that nothing we say here or anywhere will bring it back.

If anyone has found another manufacturer that is willing to meet the demand for this product, please let us know.  Hopefully any patents will have expired by now.

Corded Trackman mouse is no more???

I was shocked. I drove around looking for my favorite mouse in a corded version and came up empty handed. I have two corded Trackman mice and 1 cordless. I like the corded better so just wanted to add my plea for the return. Prolly aint gonna happen, but then again The product was a winner and not ready to be retired in my opinion- bring it back!

I've been an avid logitech trackman user for... well, as long as iv'e been using computers for the most part.  I felt compelled today to register and add my voice to this thread, as I am no longer able to replace my wired trackman, and find the wireless model unacceptable, as I am not allowed to use them in my place of work.

Just to give some history of how long and loyal of a logitech trackman user I have been...   My first trackman was the original Trackman in 1989, the grey rectangle box

from there I rejoyced at the upgraded trackman (and the original blue-balled mouse)

The trackman marble was the biggest design upgrade that they've done in the line, and I bought one immediately when it came out, it was much more ergonomic, although the white mouse looked rather grungy and dirty after very short periods of time.  Not long after I got the trackman marble wheel when they removed the center button and put in a scroll wheel.

The next that I purchased, and of which i own FIVE is the Trackman wheel optical.  This resolved most of the remaining problems that I had with the trackman marble wheel, and the removal of the ring bezel around the ball itself made for much smoother motion.

I own one of the original wireless trackmen, and it's only 'ok'  it's not nearly as accurate and usable as the wired ones, but I use it from my couch to control my computer when running on my big screen TV for multi-media.

I needed a new mouse for work and went to buy another wired trackman, as workign around medical devices we're not allowed wireless devices... and found that I could not get one... anywhere I looked.  This to me marks the end of the greatest computer human interaction device line in the history of mice.  Please, create another wired trackman.   Heck, make it a wired/wireless model with a USB cable that can be both the charger for a rechargable battery for wireless mode OR just a wired connection that's removable.  Then you could have a single product line that covers both wired and wireless, and make everyone happy.

 I do not need more 2.4GHz interference for my wireless network just to use a trackball that is stationary anyway. I really do not understand the point of a wireless trackball of this type. I cannot stand the center mounted trackballs.

It has been over 9 months since this thread started with no inkling of a reply from Logitech, so I guess I need to go look elsewhere.

lack of wire is the only thing keeping me from buying the trackman.  i just can't be bothered with supplying batteries for something that will sit on my desk and never move.  i don't see the point of a wireless trackball.

for about 10 years, i was using the marble-fx, still works after all that, but my new computer doesn't have access port for it and i had to retire it.  now i'm stuck with an optical mousy thingy

as a note for those having problems with button sticking, i had that as well, but a quick spray with plasticlean II (aerosol spray) cured that problem.  it's for cleaning quartz watch movements, but i find that it also works great for many electronic devices, i was able to bring new life to my marble-fx as well as my sony clie, keyboard buttons and numerous other gadgets.

look around for it, it's kind of expensive but worth it.

The only reason I registered is to lodge my futile vote to bring back the Wired Trackman Wheel, and to bid farewell to Logitech as a customer. This is the most comfortable trackball design IMO, and wired is a critical option to give customers that demand reliable performance without worrying about signal interference and battery life. I have purchased three of these over the last six years and had I known that it was being considered for discontinuation, I would have hoarded them like Scrooge McDuck.

At least consider bringing the corded version back to life and marketing it as a gaming device at a higher price point. If this ever comes back to the shelves, you'll see me again as a customer, but right now I say NO to the battery-guzzling wireless version. I also refuse to buy any of the proprietary Logitech wireless keyboards, mice or other wireless devices using the dongle.

See you around later if you bring the wired trackman wheel back, unless a smart manufacturers finds out first and starts churning out a comparable product.

I too specifically joined this site just to tell you to please bring this mouse back. 

I switched to this mouse YEARS ago, its the ONLY mouse I use. My imac came with a Magic mouse and Trackpad and I use the wired Trackman Wheel instead. 

My wife and I Both have one, she uses one hooked to her dell laptop. We also have two more in reserve incase these go bad.

I have converted SO many people over to this mouse.  Ever family member I know has one because they all had used mine at some point in time. 

PLEASE BRING THE TRACKMAN WHEEL BACK.

This needs to be bumped and made heard again and again, because Logitech should really reconsider this move. I can't put it any other way: the very idea of a wireless trackball is pretty daft.

Disadvantages of a wireless device:

• Have to consider battery status
• Have to replace/load batteries
• Increased latency
• Interference problems

Advantages of a wireless device:

• Easier to move around

One of many advantages of a trackball:

• Does not have to be moved around.

I literally get a bunch of disadvantages for one feature that really isn't one. In turn the device gets more cumbersome to use, less reliable, and costs more money. I refuse to believe that wired trackballs have not been a profitable product for Logitech. 789 reviews with a 4.5-star average on Amazon! It's simply one of the best pointer devices ever created. Trackballs are infinitely superior to mice, and Logitech's wired thumb trackballs were among the best, and the last remaining. The fact that so many people refuse to upgrade from a design as stupid as the computer mouse has me lose some faith in humanity. No disrespect to Douglas Engelbart, it was great in the sixties, but better designs have made it obsolete.

I would like to stock up on remaining wired Trackmans.... but by now they sell from $180 upwards on Amazon, more than five times the original retail price. Clearly there is a demand that is no longer being met.

Bump. This is the best mouse made. Someone at Logitech should be listening that there is demand for this wired version. As with others I ended up here in an attempt to purchase 3 more of these mice only to find them discontinued.

Is anyone at Logitech listening!
