Is there any other to get the mouse to send a plain old Ctrl key ?
The point is to invoke this useful feature, show location of pointer
If not, Is they any way to invoke "show location of pointer" using a different key combination?
Details:
I have a new Logitech M510 wireless mouse. I tried to use the Logitech SetPoint Control Center software version 6.32.7 Driver version 5.33.14 to get it to send a plain Ctrl key.
The reason is to get this useful behavior:
In the Control Panel | Mouse there is a pointer option that says
"show the location of pointer when I press the ctrl key"
In Setpoint, when I type the Ctrl key it does enter Ctrl+ in the output box.
Notice the + sign. It does not send a ctrl key. It needs me to type another key and then sends, e.g.. ctrl+c
setPoint seems to allow key bindings for certain applications, e.g.. I tried this for Powerpoint.
However I want this in every situation, not just for a few applications.

Hi stolkin,
Even if it says Ctrl +, if you hit Apply it will register it as simply a Ctrl keystroke. I just tested in our lab with a MX Revolution, setting a button as the Ctrl key, and it was able to register for the Windows feature that shows the mouse cursor location.
Regards

Thanks.
Unfortunately Logitech support replied that feature is only available with a gaming mouse Gxxx, not a regular mouse Mxxx. Why? Who knows? The buttons are there on the mouse, and the SetPoint program can configure them. Its possible someone probably had to write extra code to disable this.
Similalrly, who knows why Microsoft decided to hard code this useful "show the pointer" feature just to a bare Ctrl key and provided no other key to invoke it.

What mouse do you have? I used a non gaming mouse and it was working perfectly for me.
