v470 doesn't work on mousepad, works on paper or book, defective?

So I just picked up a v470 and it worked fine on my mousepad for a few minutes and then stopped. I thought I'd lost my connection but it turns out that was very stable, but it wasn't tracking. When I put it on the instruction fold out it started tracking. Then I put it on my motherboard manual with a glossy cover and it worked there too. Turns out the best surface for it is the anodized black brushed aluminium external hard drive case.

Regardless this is completely inadaquate, is it a defective laser? Discharged batteries in the box that came with the mouse? What can I do to fix it?

Hi:smileyhappy:,

Does the mouse also do this with a different computer (on similar surfaces)?

Re: v470 doesn't work on mousepad, works on paper or book, defective?

I'll have to try it on a co-workers system when they get into the office, I don't have any other bluetooth hardware running under windows. Tested at the office though it doesn't work on mousepad, formica, sheet steel file cabinets, or white paper even. Tried swapping batteries to no help. I know I have a connection though because the clicking of the mouse still works when it's on and connected, but there's just no cursor movement. I'll post back in a bit to see if it connects to an XP IBM laptop when someone shows up.

[ Edited ]

Results are in, connecting to an IBM/Lenovo T61 notebook with the V470 produces the same results, the mouse will track on dark color glossy cover books, but not on almost anything else. And I confirmed that the mouse was connected to the T61 because the scroll wheel and mouse buttons would work just fine, but the optical wouldn't move the cursor except over very specific surfaces.

Re: v470 doesn't work on mousepad, works on paper or book, defective?

Thank you CJ for the help, unfortunately when sending a message to customer support I got a canned response from Ryan saying that I should check the knowledge base for two answers that I of course already tried as evidenced by my original post, and which showed that he didn't bother looking here for any details about the issue I was having. I did send him a response saying so, and will maintain hope that Logitech Customer Support would do a more thorough job by clicking on a link that's included with the support request to find out the details included in previous attempts by the customer to deal with the issue. Let's hope the next email has an improved response.

Too bad. I'm facing the same problem here. I'm so disappointed to grab this Mouse. Mac Mighty Mouse doens't give me any problem..i got a few pieces in office. Logitech NO Quality control to their product and NO Quality on support department. what we shall do? throw it away and black list the Logitech products..unless we saw the solution immediately..
