Microphones (READ ONLY ARCHIVE)

So I plugged my microphone in, and apparently it's plugged in fine and it's "working" except that no sound is being recorded. The computer tells me that my volume is too low, so I go to control panel and try to fix the sound, but it still doesn't work. It says that everything is working properly, but I have to fix the volume, and apparently I don't know how. So I'm stuck and really don't know what to do anymore. Also I know some light is supposed to be flashing on my microphone, and none of them are lit.
