I have a USB Logitech desktop microphone that I plug into my mobile computer dock. When I'm docked and set the microphone recording level (volume) everything works fine. When I undock my mobile computer and later re-dock the computer, the microphone recording level (volume) is reset. The mobile computer has an internal HD audio codec. Once in a while, the volume level will actually be retained, but I can't figure out why that is the case. I have gone through the XP sound control application, selected the USB mic, set the volume level to no avail. Any idea how to make the volume level on the mic input stick?
thanks

Hi,
The mobile dock is actually a hub, not the computers root hub. When you redock, the mobile hub can be enumerated at different times in the boot process or if the computer is on then docked you get a different enumeration sequence.
I doubt this would happen if the mic were plugged into the laptop directly.

I wish that were the case. I have confirmed that the dock USB ports are routed directly to the ICH USB controller and there is no hub in the topology. I also tried using the USB ports on the device itself, which I have also confirmed are not routed through a hub, and have the same result. Sigh,
