I can confirm that the downloaded software allows me to setup my 650 and it looks a lot better than the browser based one. Through this I have been able to change the names displayed on my remote for each of the devices to something more usable.
I think everyone should be directed to use this rather than myharmony.com by default.

True, you can do just about anything with the old software, including renaming devices, but doing so takes the pressure off logitech to fix myharmony. We need as many angry customers as possible to get them to listen. The instructions in the box say to use myharmony. If myharmony doesn't work, logitech needs to fix it.

i didn't use the software because for weeks it was giving me a server error

Have you tried reinstalling the software or logging in at at members.harmonyremote.com ?

ditto on the naming. got mine last night and after setting it up, couldnt change the name. So downloaded the old software to name change and have to go through the whole process again.

Common Logitech! User Friendly software has been compromised by NOT having ease of use recognition.
Two questions to the Group:
1) To those who have downloaded the (old) software are you saying one must totally reprogram the Remote for ALL devices you currently have??? It will not recognize the current configuration at all?
2). Has anyone got a date when this will be addressed in a software release by Logitech?

Truly this is rediculous. I downloaded the software from their website to rename my device and I had to go through setup again. When I FINALLY got to my 5th device (my home theater), it said it couldnt setup the remote and to call customer service for a "special" setup. Worked fine on MyHarmony.com, but not in the software. Horrible system here Logitech!
