Hi...
Is there any difference in the functionality of the LMS by platform?
I am currently running LMS on my Readynas duo and considering moving the LMS to a windows 7 machine (leaving just the music files on the NAS). Apart from perhaps a speed up of indexing, are there any benefits?
regards

more powerful computers than the readynas duo are much snappier in terms of scanning music, browsing music, etc. My readynas duo was painfully slow with my music collection (about 55,000 tracks at the time). But was very fast and snappy on my winxp, win7, or now vortexbox (linux) servers. Also there are a few plugins and transcoding things that can be done with a faster computer relative to a readynas duo. (note the new readynas duo is a much faster machine, and the more powerful readynas units are x86 and are as fast as most computers).
***I don't work for Logitech...I'm just another user***
Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)
Office: Win7(64) > LMS 7.7.2 > SqueezePlay
Spares: VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER
Controllers: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop
Files: Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Tagging - mp3tag, Spotify

Thanks for the clarification.
I have started the move to a win 7 based LMS just using the Readynas Duo as file storage.
First learning - all my alarm settings were removed and i overslept this morning!
