MySqueezebox.com & Squeezebox Server

I want to run squeezeplay, but it's a total failure on ubuntu/xubuntu as the graphics are broken and it doesn't output any sound. Looking through the forums here (and searching with Google) this seems to be a pretty well known problem.  There are workarounds but since they involve a lot of customisation/bodging of the basic Ubuntu installation I don't really want to go down that route.

So, are there any current Linux distributions that run the latest version of squeezeplay without issues?
