DLNA and Squeezbox server

Anyone out there use a Panasonic Viera (or other DNLA compatible device) to operate Squeezbox server?  I can see the SB library, acces all the songs and even Que them to play.  Problem is once I try and hit play it won't play and/or start the song.  ANy help greatly appreciated.

Re: DLNA and Squeezbox server

Check the format of the files.  Are they a format supported by your Panny (like simple mp3's)?  Or are they a format your Panny cannot play (like FLAC)?

Re: DLNA and Squeezbox server

Thanks for the help.  All my files are wav's...which could be the issue.  Confusing part is that the Panny can see all the files (and even the album art jpeg's) but can't initiate a start with the Panny remote.  I will not be converting all my files to mp3 for obvious reason and this was going to be a nice convenience.  Thanks again and if you have anything additiononal appreciate it.

Re: DLNA and Squeezbox server

Well, I'd confirm that is indeed the issue first (Panny cannot play WAV files).  Maybe try just a couple mp3's to see if those play, just for diagnostic purposes.  WAV is pretty common and generally supported for even the most basic DLNA players, AFAIK, so it seems odd the Panny can't play them.  I don't really mess with DLNA for music as this is why I purchased SqueezeBox players, so maybe WAV is not as commonly supported on DLNA devices as I believe.

Thanks for the response.  I think your most profound statement was the "why" you went to Squeezbox which is same for me.  I thought it would be nice to see library on big TV for interaction....will upadte thread if I get anywhere.

But it doesn't sound like you actually went to SqueezeBox.  Do you have any SqueezeBox players? This is what squeezeit is referring to (i.e., SB instead of using DLNA).  If you mean you went to Squeezebox *Software* (i.e., LMS) that's a different story. There are many more stable software programs that handle music libraries and streaming to DLNA devices. LMS is not really the best thing to use for that.   It is great (and much, much better than DLNA/UpNP) but only for use with hardware Squeezebox players.

Get yourself a SB TOUCH, connect it to your Stereo, and you'll find it very enjoyable. And better yet, get an app to control it all from your iphone, ipad, or android phone or tablet!

Re: DLNA and Squeezbox server

Thanks for more insight.  New to these "forums" and finding out that painting the intiial picture is critical.  I have 2 SB Touch's one running on Wifi, the other hard wired to router. Older Dell PC with XP is running SB Server software (it's only job) and it really works well.  The primary witred SB takes digital fiber to NAD CD player with decent D/A convertor to tube preamp and amp out to the speakers.  A really good set up and sounds good. 12,000 songs, no buffering issues, art comes though as jpeg's .I use WAV's and for whatever reason I like them best (I know there is much debate and other options). And have my iPhone app running it in the house. Pretty cool. So you ask why do this? Well I don't know other than I got this new TV. It has DLNA and I can see my Logitech Music server and all the albums and songs and thought it would be nice to just be able to surf the music library on the big 55inch screen.  I had hoped to be able to just push "play" and drive the SB server software to do it's thing through SB.  I guess I am missing a link in theory on what DLNA really is.  But learing every day thanks to these posts.

Re: DLNA and Squeezbox server

aha. Got it.  Yep, I understand your curiosity re: the DLNA aspects given that your TV handles it.   I've learned just enough about it to realize that using DLNA is like returning to a 1972 Ford Pinto after driving around in a 2011 Porche.....  They both will get you from point a to point b.
