Re: Extremely slow performance navigating Music Folder

good to hear it's working. I'm not an expert on the BMF software process, so I can't really be sure how it works. I would assume that the adding to the database only happens the first time.

Regarding uploading images, you can do that here (click on the  rich text tab in the reply mode, click on the litlle icon of a picture (just to right of smiley face and link), browse to the image you want to attach, then attach file. But I don't think this will get you anywhere. I'd suggest you create a bug as noted earlier and attach the image file there.

I have heard that the newer versions of LMS are pickier about tags, images, etc. So some images that might have been ok before may no longer work and cause a problem with the scanning.  My understanding is that it is best to use only jpg files as images.  I have art in most of my files (either "cover.jpg" or "folder.jpg" in the same directory as album or for my mp3 files, the art is embedded.  Largest artwork is typically 1000x1000. I've not had any issues with art.

One thing, on your music library tab in LMS > Settings, uncheck everything but audio files. LMS trying to scan other images or videos (now that they've added DLNA) can cause some issues and if you're not trying to use the DLNA server (which is buggy), you are better with these filetypes unchecked. You'll still get your album artwork.  Good luck.

To the right of the smiley and the link icons are the Ordered list and Unordered list icons. Perhaps as a new user I'm not allowed to attach files.

Also, I can't find the Music Library tab in the Settings web page. The tabs I see are: Basic Settings, Player, My Music, mysqueezebox.com, iTunes, Interface, Plugins, Advanced, Information.

Re: Extremely slow performance navigating Music Folder

maybe new users can't post. but as i said, probably a zero chance of helping solve bug to post the image here anyhow. Lots of discussion a while back at the other forums on image issues (mostly related to type of image file) and I suspect there are already bugs filed. (Note that there are bugs with 50 votes that are several years old....the developers do the best they can to fix major issues, but there are only a couple of them, so resources are limited and they have to prioritize. Squeezebox stuff is a tiny, tiny, tiny part of Logitech.) And as noted, this "bug" is not affecting everyone (most poeple I know with large libraries and lots of art, don't have any art issues, just as I don't).

Click on the "my music" tab, and in this tab you should see the location where you note the directory with your music library, and next to this is the checkboxes for filetypes.

Re: Extremely slow performance navigating Music Folder

or maybe the music library info is under basic settings. Can't remember, just click on the tabs until you find the place where you entered your music library directory information....

[ Edited ]

Yes, it's in the Basic Settings tab. I will remove the pictures and video checkboxes as a first troubleshooting step if I run into any issues in the future. Thanks again.

Re: Extremely slow performance navigating Music Folder

And there is always a "blank" place to enter another music folder underneath the one you've already entered, with all the filetype boxes checked. This is OK as that "blank" slot is not active.

Re: Extremely slow performance navigating Music Folder

In the end it seems that the solution was as follows:

1. Run a clean scan.

2. Delete or replace every file (audio or image) mentioned in the log as having some sort of problem.

3. Rerun clean scan. Repeat until log shows no problems.

Things are much smoother now. A clean scan takes a little under 4 hours on my low-power PC and the slow browsing problem is gone. Thanks again for the tips.
