Hi,
I new to this forum and i'm also new to LMS but i know some about media servers in generan and the importnance of tagging correctly.
I hav a problem, which i have seen some others as well having here but i have not been able to find a solution for it.
My problem is that the server does not show mult disc albums as one even though i have selected that in the settings of LMS.
If the music on my drive is organized like this:
Artist\Album\CD01
Artist\Album\CD02
Artist\Album\CD03
I get the albums in the album view with the same name even though all tags are clened an Artist, Album Artist, Genre and so on are the same. Why???
I also have (at least) one other album which is a set of four discs but in that case all the files are in the same subfolder like:
Artist\Album
But for this album i also get four albums with the same name.
Also here, all tags are cleaned and correct.
Does anyone have som tips because i'm out of ideas?
The version of LMS is 7.7.2 - r33893.
Thanks in advance!

hmmmm, it does work so there must be somethign a bit off in your setup. When you have the Artist/Album/Disc1 etc. setup, are you sure that the album name is identical in all the different disks (in the tags) AND, VERY IMPORTANTLY, does the disk tag have the right entry (1, 2, or 3). I'm afraid that maybe your metadata doesn't contain the disknumber.

and after editing tags, you'll need to do a "clear and rescan" in LMS (NOT just a look for changes).

Ok, now i have tested that on a couple of albums and it seems to work fine.
So the reason iget several albums with the exact sam name is because i have the files organized like Artist\Album\CD01 etc, and no Disc number in the tag?
I have never used the Disc number before because i thought that it should be treated as one album no matter how many subfolders i had....
Phew, this will take a while
Thanks for your help!

mp3tag is a great tag editor by the way (for all sorts of files, not just mp3 files)

Yes, i have used MP3Tag but now i mostly use MediaMonkey which is also outstanding.
But now i got another problem....
I decided to first clean all my tags, en retag the files which is now done. Everyting looks fine when i inspect the tags in MediaMonkey, MP3Tag och even in Windows. But after clearing the database in LMS and rescanning everything i suddenly get the year of an album in fron of some Albums, and also sometimes in front of the Artist.
Like this in the Artist view:
1998 - All The Young Dudes - The Antology
Which is an album by Mott The Hoople and All The Young Dudes is a song.
It seems that the db is completely messed up.

So the tags show up properly in mediamonkey? Open the LMS control panel (lower right tray), and on one of the tabs, there is a place to "clear cache". Do this, then do a clear and rescan. Also go into LMS > SETTINGS and check all your settings about display to make sure that you haven't got the display setup up to use the above format (for example, under PLAYER options.
I'd also recommend posting your question/issue at
forums.slimdevices.com
there is a lot more user expertise over there for this sort of thing. I recall something about diplaying of year (or not), but can't remember how to solve.

Yes, the tags are absolutely correct in MediaMonkey and in MP3Tag as well.
I have seen the "Clear Cache" before you mentioned it and i did it this morning, and as i have not selected to have the year shown with the albms or artist, everything now (several hours later
) shows 100% correct.
It has been a bit of a struggle but i think that there really was a need to clean and retag all files so the problem was definitely more my files than LMS.
Now i can find and listen to all my good music just as i want to.
Thank you once again and hope you'll have Happy Easter!

Excellent. Yes, having tags in good condition makes use of almost any player/database much better. Enjoy!
