Re: Internet radio stations drop repeatedly

Might be related to synchronizing, but still not sure - have to run some more tests.

For a while yesterday, I thought the problem was the Radio.  Once I powered it completely down and removed the AC adapter, the other players didn't drop the stations for quite some time.  But the problem eventually reoccurred, so it may be related but the Radio is not the fundamental problem.

Sure is frustrating.

Re: Internet radio stations drop repeatedly

I have the same problem, i am using WHS with version 7.7.2. Everything else works ok. I start a station on SB radio, it then will stop after a random time. it also does this on the Boom too. I have tried it with cable connection and the same happens though not as often. I have a very fast broadband connection and do not see the issue with iTunes playing stations.

The Boom and Radio are not sync'd and i find it will also sometimes stop playing music on wireless from the server even though i have very good signal strength.

Re: Internet radio stations drop repeatedly

when you switch to cable connection, do you change the network setup from WIFI to ethernet?  Simply plugging in the cable doesn't automatically switch the player to ethernet.

Re: Internet radio stations drop repeatedly

[ Edited ]

After a couple of weeks fiddling with different configurations, I think I've narrowed down the problem: it's the synchronization.

For the last week, all my radio stations have played continuously with problems, using the LMS rather than MySqueezebox.com which is the way I prefer to run my devices.  The difference is that I turned off device synchronization for all of them (Squeezebox Classic/Ethernet, two Booms/WiFi and a Radio/WiFi).

There's something broken in the software that manages the Sync; while syncing the devices it seems to timeout and drop the Internet radio station connection on a frequent basis.  With no Sync, no problems.  I'm running the latest LMS I have: 7.7.2 r33893.

Until a few months ago, this setup used to work perfectly well, with all devices sync'd, on older LMS releases.  I didn't mess with updating the software or changing my configuration until the dropouts started.

But as you can imagine; keeping them sync'd is what I want to do; otherwise there are echoes and delays all over the house.

Further ideas to try, anybody?

To confirm it is a problem with LMS, try connecting all of your players to MySB.com, Sync them, see if they play fine.

I've had three of my WiFi players (Boom, Radio, Touch) Sync'd all weekend without issue playing mostly higher bitrate stations (256k+).  However, my players are using MySB.com not LMS.

No such problems here Sync'ing three WiFi players (Boom, Touch, Radio) through LMS 7.7.2 playing 256k stations.  Been playing fine all morning.  Not a single rebuffer or stop or interruption.

Re: Internet radio stations drop repeatedly

I'm going to modify my network by adding another switch, so that I can switch one of my Booms from WiFi to wired Ethernet - after fiddling with numerous configurations it looks like the problem is related to syncing the various devices and may be compounded by 3 of them being WiFi.

All this used to work fine, now it doesn't - can't figure out what changed, or why.  But maybe this will help; I'll post a followup once the switch arrives and is installed.

FOLLOWUP 8Oct2012: I added a little gigibit switch a few months back and hardwired the formerly-wireless Boom.  Still having quite a few problems maintaining solid internet radio connections - mostly frequent "rebuffering" sessions where it drops out for 5-30 seconds at a time, sometimes stopping completely.  My broadband, router and network far exceed the requirements of streaming internet radio voice, so there's something else wrong; I'm thinking SB server software or device firmware problems.

Still very frustrating.

Re: Internet radio stations drop repeatedly

I'm hoping that resurecting this thread will reveal a solution to this issue.

In my case:
- I'm using the latest LMS update (7.7.3 - Nov 17).
- I have 3 Booms and a Touch running in sync (but not necessarily all running simultaneously).
- There are no issues with playing from the music collection stored on my PC. It only happens with internet radio stations. <Let me restate that, as I was typing this, I was playing music stored on my PC and the music became interupted for a few seconds, then restored itself. (Since I don't recollect a previous experience with this, I'll attribute the dropout to a flaw in the played file.)>
- Clicking on "PLAY" on any of the players or the PC restores playing.
- Sometimes the station will resume playing after a period of time with no interaction on my part.

Since I seldom use Mysqueezebox.com. I can't remember having similar issues with it.

Other than this issue, LMS has been functioning flawlessly. Its a shame that Logitech has dropped the sqieezebox product line.

Has anyone updated to 7.8 in an attempt to resolve this problem?

How about installing a prior version?
