Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

Well 7.6.0 was a bad one to try. It had a lot of bugs. Probably 7.6.1 would be better.

Is your router a router/modem 2-in-1 or just a router?

If it is just a router can you plug your computer into the modem directly just to see if the router's firewall is stopping it?

Did you disable both Windows firewalls for public and private networks?

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

I installed 7.6.1 - works flawlessly with firewalls and virus protection active.  If they would be a problem, I'm assuming 7.6.1 wouldn't work.  There seems to be something else going on beyond the usual suspects.

I'd still like to get 7.7.1 installed.  Please advise.

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

I don't have a copy of 7.6.1.  Is it still available somewhere?

I have a tp-link wireless N router and a motorola surfboard cable modem.  The computer has a tp-link wireless N network card.  It would be difficult do plug directly into the cable modem without a lot of work that I'm really not interested in doing.

I did disable both public and private networks.

I just cleaned up my computer a bit and reinstalled 7.7.1.  We'll see how long it works.  Is there a file that I could look at before/after it works that may help diagnose exactly what the problem is?  Some kind of log file or something?

Thanks again,

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

If you go to the information page it should tell you where the server log and scanner log is located or you can just go to the advanced tab and click on server log and/or scanner log and view it.

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

After some experimentation I've gotten LMS to start again.  As far as I can tell, the problem is that I had "automatically run on system start" enabled.  Once I finally opened the program as administrator again and changed this to "do not start automatically" or whatever, it works.  So I have to manually start the server.  I've done various reboots and it appears to be working as long as I start it manually.

I haven't tried using "start on login", but that doesn't do much for me since Win7 won't auto boot to my profile.

Anyway hope that helps someone.  Hopefully Logitech will fix that in the next release, because I really need that functionality for my boom to work as an alarm clock.

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

i had problems with the automatically runt at system start.  i appear to have solved them by downloading 7.7.1 and running the exe setup file as an administrator rather than updating through squeeze server.

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install -- running on old iBook

Hi Cat,

Yes.  I did do a clean install and emptied the trash.

A couple of times to be as sure as possible. :-)

The freeze error looks like some kind of tk interface is not running properly

is there some version of perl that has to be on the machine in order for this preference pane script to run?

Is there an older script worth trying for an older machine?

Thanks.

Hello Mike Gage,

You can try an older version of our server.

http://downloads.slimdevices.com

That has all of our versions on it.

Also make sure to reboot the Mac as well.

Re: Logitech Media Server won't start after install

I also am having the similiar problems with 7.7.1 not starting. I thought it was working ok for a few days but something changed and I had to reinstall. I did stop it to move my music path but it then no longer worked. All I did wa rename the directory at one level of the path to make the path consistant with another machine.

After reinstalling I can not get it started. Its complaining about the netmask related to the UPnP plugin. I will have to get the exact infor from the statup logfile.

I gave up and reverted to 7.6.1 and that installed and starts fine. I don't have the UPnP capabiliy in that version but I can at least see my music again.
