ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Hello,

I have the latest general release of LMS (7.7.0) running on a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo.  I had experienced no problems running SBS on the ReadyNAS but LMS doesn't run properly.

The problem is with the library scanning.  It simply doesn't stop scanning:

This page shows the progress of each phase of the scanning process.

Discovering files/directories: /media/Music   (3766 of 3766  Complete  00:01:01

Scanning new music files: /media/Music   (13 of 13  Complete  00:00:06

Pre-caching Artwork    Complete  00:00:00

Scanning new media files:     Running  05:54:42

It never gets beyond this...

It streams the music fine, but every time I add music and want to rescan, I need to Abort the scan that's running and then restart the LMS (from the ReadyNAS management GUI) to get it to rescan.

Is this a known problem - I've searched the forums and can't really find any similar problems?

Happy to troubleshoot if somebody lets me know what's required.

Was hoping to use the new DLNA functionality (to see if it's more compatible with my other equipment than the ReadyDLNA that comes with the NAS), but the scanner simply won't find any file types other than music, so have given up on that idea - I'm guessing it may be a related issue.

Many thanks,

Phil

Re: ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Hello Phil,

Can I have you do a clean install of the nightly build?

Re: ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Hello Cat,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did try a previous 7.7.1 beta release to see if that made any difference.  It didn't, so I tried to revert back to 7.7.0 and ended up in all sorts of bother and it took ages to get 7.7.0 back on without getting errors saying it wasn't installing properly.

Happy to try, though - will update in due course...

Re: ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Hello Cat,

OK, did a clean install of the latest nightly build.  Initial scan of my Music directory completed without issue.  I then did a rescan of new and changed media and, again, it completed fine.

I then tried to add a directory with some pictures in it (not my whole 'Pictures' directory, just a subdirectory with about 10 photos in it).  As soon as I hit 'Apply' this happened:

[11-12-12 20:36:42.6680] Slim::Utils::smileyfrustrated:canner::Local::rescan (171) Discovering audio files in
[11-12-12 20:36:46.6054] Slim::Utils::smileyfrustrated:canner::Local::__ANON__ (254) Removing deleted audio files (0)
[11-12-12 20:36:46.6124] Slim::Utils::smileyfrustrated:canner::Local::__ANON__ (332) Scanning new audio files (0)
[11-12-12 20:36:46.6195] Slim::Utils::smileyfrustrated:canner::Local::__ANON__ (410) Rescanning changed audio files (0)
2011-12-12 20:36:46 Logitech Media Server died. Restarting.
[11-12-12 20:37:16.6860] main::init (354) Starting Logitech Media Server (v7.7.1, r33747, Sat Dec 10 03:05:33 PST 2011) perl 5.008008

When it came back up, the directory I had added was not saved in the config and when I tried to do a scan, it just sat there saying 'scanning' but doing nothing.

I bounced LMS from the ReadyNAS GUI and it's working fine for Music again now.  I haven't tried pictures again.

Happy to do some more troubleshooting if you think you can get the Pictures and Videos directories scanned so I can try out the DLNA functionality.

Regards,

Phil

Re: ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Hello Phil,

Are you wishing to use the Logitech Media Server to send pictures to your Revue?

What are the formats of the pictures?

When you put them in a subdirectory is it like "Pictures" and "Music" or "Pictures" inside of "Music"?

Re: ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Hi Cat,

I was hoping to test the DLNA plugin to see if it was more robust than Netgear's ReadyDLNA which is included in the ReadyNAS software, so I'd be streaming pictures to a Kodak picture frame and videos to a number of DLNA compatible devices (e.g. Sony Blu-ray player).

The ReadyNAS has a 'Media' folder inside which is the 'Music' folder (with the normal directory sorting for \Artist\Album...) and a 'Pictures' folder with subdirectories for year and then 'activity'.  So, for example, LMS is happy scanning for music in:

\\NAS\Media\Music\U2\The Joshua Tree\

but not for pictures in:

\\NAS\Media\2011\2011-08-01 Summer Hols\

It was set to look for music only in the Music folder, and pictures only in the Pictures folder.

Re: ReadyNAS Duo and LMS 7.7.0 Endless scanning

Cat, they're just 'standard' JPG files from a digital camera (Olympus e520) and an Android phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia neo)
