Slow playback from stream

Hi,

I do not mean slow network, I mean the stream sounds like the old tape players when the batteries started to go.

The stream is: http://streaming.gmgradio.com/xsuk.m3u which translates to http://shoutcast.gmgradio.com:10103

playing this through a normal play like WMP plays the streat correctly as you would expect. However, if I play it through a squeezebox (or softaqueeze) via the LMS I get a slow down.

I am currently running LMS 7.7.2 - r33893 under Ubuntu Linux. I have noticed that some of the other streams seem to have the same affect, but no idea what is causing this or how I can start to debug this problem. I have tried searching for this issue in the forums, but only seems to be able to find issues about laggy connections, which I'm 99% certain that this problem is not, as other stations play fine, plus I can play the stream directly through other players.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Al

Plays fine for me on both a Touch and an SB3/Classic both connected to MySB.com.  It's a 320k mp3 via Internet Radio > Search > *gmradio*

Can you play other 320k streams fine?  Tried connecting the player directly to MySB.com and playing it?  Is your SoftSqueeze Sync'd to your hardware player?  If yes, try it un-Sync'd and do not use SoftSqueezeeeze.

I'm wondering if maybe the 320k is the issue?  Ubuntu might be having a problem with such streams (particularly if involving a software player)?  Or maybe ISP is bandwidth limiting your streams which may be more evident on higer kbps streams?  Dunno, just guessing here.

Plays OK for on SB3 and Touch using a 32bit Ubuntu system but this URL http://shoutcast.gmgradio.com:10103/ is a 48kHz 56kbps AAC stream.

Do the stream show up as AAC  on your system ?

Perhaps your system is not using the LMS provides faad or flac.  What does the banner say when you run the LMS provided faad application with "faad -h" ?

Have you got a modded player which has one of the crystals removed ?

Re: Slow playback from stream

squeezeit, no it's not sync'd and no it's not any limitation by the ISP on bandwidth (that would cause bitty playback rather than slow)

bpa2, it shows as "56kbps CBR, AAC Internet Radio"

Play is a borrowed one so no idea. I'm working on a project, so mainly using softsqueeze :-S However, I am doubting that this is the problem as other streams play fine.

Re: Slow playback from stream

faad version is OK.

What version of Softsqueeze are you using ?  3.9b1 works ok for me.

Are you sure you are not using Squeezeslavbe or Squeezeplay as these used to have problems with 48k streams.

Re: Slow playback from stream

SoftSqueeze 3.9b2 - Windows and Linux versions do the same (http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/download.html)

To my knowledge I am not using Squeezeslave or Squeezeplay, as I downloaded the above and Logitech Media Server v7.7.2 from http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download

I notice you reference 3.9b1 rather than 3.9b2. Should I give the previous beta a shot?

Re: Slow playback from stream

3.9b2 is OK - IIRC the difference is plugin issue and not the jar.

Have you changed any of the LMS WebUI/Setting/Advanced/FileTypes settings  ?

Re: Slow playback from stream

Yes, but only to try and get the stream working.

Really, other than some BBC iPlayer Plugin tweaks and how my players display tack names, not really. I have set priority up to max and admit putting the quality up. However, none of this has actually affected the stream.

However, I am willing to reset the server etc. Just to be sure, bpa2 are you able to play the stream and not have it sounding like the batteries are on their way out? (The thought of the internet being powered by batteries has just my me chuckle :smileylol:)

What did you change - for iPlayer plugin the standard settings with no changes work. If you had to change something then you have some other problem.

How did you "putting the quality up" ?  There is no setting for this on the WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes ?

Have you enabled bit rate limiting ?

On an Ubuntu 11.10 system, the 56k AAC streams play OK (i.e. normal speed) on SoftSqueeze, SB3 (which also needs same transcoding as Softsqueeze) and Touch (native AAC0.

Re: Slow playback from stream

Hi,

IPlayer settings... I have infact not changed the settings, that is my mind playing tricks.

Putting the quality up was in the Player settings:

LMS -> Player -> Audio -> LAME Quality level -> 0 (Highest)

The performance setting I changed is:

LMS -> Advanced -> Performance -> Server Priority -> 16 - High

I have not set any bit rate limiting. I have reset the player settings. Is there a way of reseting the settings of the server it's self? If not, I guess I could try removing it completely and starting again? What do you think?
