A couple of dumb questions. Can my Squeezebox use either one? If my computer is off the device seems to revert to MSB.com. When that happens, on the surface everything seems the same. I assume my local media would be unavailable but my apps all seem to be in working order. Could one use the Squeezebox without any computer at all. Do you need the server software at all, just for initial set up, playing local media?? Thanks.

Indeed, you do need the local software mainly to play you local media.
Other advantages of the server are that you can install 3rd-party plugins which can add functionality or support for services like YouTube that Logitech don't support themselves.
Also, if you want several Squeezeboxes to play in sync you'd need the server to get a good synchronization and also to make this work for ccertain services who only allow a single stream per user.
"Yes" to all other questions, pretty much everything else also works with MySqueezebox.com
