I run my music and SqueezeCenter off my ReadyNAS Duo with my SlimServer "Classic". It's been great. I want to add a Squeezebox Touch to this configuration. HOWEVER, I just tried, and gave up, trying to add a Squeezebox Radio. The most recent software updates would not scan properly, and after several configuration attempts and support on this board, I returned the Radio to Amazon. As a result of these software glitches, I now have access to less than 50% of my music files. It's a big problem.
I see lots of "scanning" issues on these message boards related to recent software updates. Can someone give me honest info/advice on the Touch?
- Do the Radio and Touch use the same SqueezeBox server software?
- If so, will I experience the same scanning issues that I just had with the Radio?
- Or are those problems specific to the Radio?
Thanks in advance.

Minimum SBS/LMS versions are different for each player. Radio = SBS 7.4 Touch = SBS 7.5
SBS/LMS server Scanning has nothing to do with the players.
I'd suggest trying SBS 7.6.2 now, before you even buy another SB player. See if that works as you wish (scanning & otherwise). 7.6.2 was a very stable release. If all goes well then add your Touch & Radio to your existing and stable SBS server version. ![]()
All previous SBS/LMS versions are here:

I assume you only use a local server and never connect your players directly to MySB.com online?

Much appreciated, squeezeit. Yes, my NAS server is local. I've only used my Classic with that configuration, and never set up a MSB account. But with the Radio, I set up a MSB.com account for radio stations. Does that create problems? My understanding is that MSB allows for Internet Radio connectivity. Without the account, I can't access stations. I'm a newbie and not very interested in the "radio" functionality; my interest in with my local music files. Thanks for any insight on this.

No problem at all. Just enter your MySB login info right onto your SBS on your NAS, no need to switch the players over to MySB.com online. Essentially your SBS will connect to MySB.com and "share" it's contents with your players.
SBS > Settings > MySqueezeBox.com > *enter your account info*, click Apply

If you have no interest in Internet Radio or any of the online subscription Apps then there is no need to even have a MySB.com account at all, on the SBS server or on the players. Even without a MySB.com account you can still stream radio stations and even use the Internet Radio menu's within SBS. No account needed.

I can't understand how Logitech could have released such hideous software updates. I viewed the radio as a cheaper alternative than the Touch to get my music into the kitchen, but the functionality due to scanning problems (only about 40% of my files are accessible) made it useless to me, not to mention the hours of my time it's eaten up. My wife and I actually liked the added Radio functionality, but not at the expense of my own music. Hello! Hasn't Apple shown these guys anything about ease of use?
Thanks again. If your recommendation of the earlier software build works, I may keep the Radio after all. The sound is not great, but it's a kitchen, and not having to crank my stereo while I wash the dishes will save my marriage.

Yeah, that's what I would do, keep the Radio for such use. What SBS version were you running prior? 6.5?

I have no idea. My SlimServer is (was) so hands off it's ridiculous. Manual scanning of new files, and that's about it. For better or worse, I ignored most updates until I had no choice.

Help! I'm stuck in the water. My media scan after installing 7.6.2 had nearly identical results as my previous ones: it stopped scanning at virtually same place, and stopped generating a scanning log. I can only get 3035 files scanned, out of 7900. It stops at the exact same spot each time. The only difference with this update was that my genres were populated with files. Previously, the genres showed, but they were empty.
It's a crap shoot as to which update to install at this point in order to get my full music access returned. All I want at this point is access to my music via my Classic.
I am running the original SlimServer Classic. I tried installing the last known "SlimServer" update from 2008, SlimServer_v6.5.4/, just to see if I could get access to my files again, but that didn't work. I can't even access the "Setup" in order to start the scan. I have no idea what the last update I installed was.Certainly within the past 2 years. Every reinstall and scan takes 2 hours. I need to figure out a way to send Logitech an invoice for my time.
This is totally ****ed. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

I don't use a NAS so maybe others can chime in on how to install/uninstall on such devices. I know there are very specific instructions for install/uninstall on a NAS, even to the point of different instructions per brand/type of NAS. My guess is you will need to do a complete SBS uninstall, then SBS cleanup routine, then do a fresh SBS install. Simply hitting "update" on a NAS installed SBS can be trouble.
Might try the Third Party Hardware forums for some advice and proper instructions.

Something I would suggest in the future, for any software you download not just SBS/LMS, always keep the downloaded install program of the version you are currently using. This way you can always go back and install that version again, right from your computer. I keep several versions of any/all downloaded programs in a single folder. I clear those downloads once a year after I am certain all is running fine on the current version, then delete all but one previous versions.
