What software players work well with Logitech Media Server?

I have just bought a Squeezebox Radio and have installed Logitech Media Server on my (xubuntu) desktop machine to use with it.  I'm impressed so far, it all "just works".

I'd like to be able to play streamed audio from Logitech Media Server on other computers (a couple of laptops and a couple of desktop machines) on the home LAN.  I have tried VLC but although that can see Logitech Media Server I can't get it to actually play anything.

Can anyone recommend a software media player for Linux that works well with Logitech Media Server?

I can recommend these:

and control them from the web interface or one of the awesome smartphone apps.

They look like exactly what I want, thank you.

However I'm not quite clear how to install them as the link given just takes me to the nightly builds of LMS, how do I download/install SqueezePlay and SqueezeSlave?

Well I found the 7.7.2 build of SqueezePlay but it's totally broken on Ubuntu.  The display corrupts when it refreshes and there's no sound.

So it's not much use rally!
