thanks for the input a little over my head never come across lms before
the solution i found was to bypass the need for logitech media server by changing a the settings on local server
http://localhost:9000/settings/index.html
and in the itunes media folder browsing to my itunes folder . most other settings can be changed here as well
can now play itunes music on squeezebox boom now i will see if it still works after uninstalling media server so i dont get those
anoying alert box warnings from media server
i am also willing to try your idea out as well as soon as i find the lms program to download

You are ALREADY running LMS on your computer. when you go to
http://localhost:9000/settings/index.html
you are simply going straight to the LMS settings (which you wouldn't see if LMS is not running). To get to LMS directly, you'd go to:
http://localhost:9000/
(and to then get to SETTINGS, you'd click on the settings button at the lower right hand side of the LMS webGUI.

and to get to the LMS settings or controls from any OTHER computer on your local network (other than the one the LMS is actually running on), you simply enter this in a browser on that other computer:
except replace 192.168.1.18 with the IP address of the computer actually running LMS.

but which LMS are you running? in the SETTINGS webpage (which you can get to), click on the information TAB. Look at very top of that page. Does it say 7.71. or 7.7.2

I am using LMS 7.7.1 have tried squeezebox 7.6.1 as well witch works on my old g5 Mac running tiger
not able to download 7.7.2 on that link either
I first got the alert box to use the " logitech media server " preference pane must quit and reopen
. and it does nothing
I first got that alert box when I used LMS on new Mac with 10.7.x flip4mac had the same alert box I rang apple they were unable to help then a few weeks later a Mac update fixed the problem for both apps
then after another update LMS is the only one giving me the alert box so it seems like a software conflict if that's the word for it
