Re: G25 driver problem for Windows 8 consumer preview

I was right, it is a security issue. I am not happy with the solution, but it works.

I disabled Smart Screen and User Account Controls and it worked. Less than an hour, glad to see Logitech cares so much to invest a similar amount of time. Perhaps they could provide a better solution so my computer is not exposed. I will not hold my breath though.

I verified that the avatars work while using the quick capture. Off to try Skype next.

Anobot,

Could you please confirm what your problem was, and what you mean by "it worked"?

For instance, my problem is:

I could get the drivers to install in Windows 8 (by choosing Windows 7 Compatibility for the executable)...

But in-game there was no force feedback for my G27.  There was Force, but it did not react to collisions or surfaced, and so there was no feedback.

I don't have a solution yet.  I have no force feedback in Windows 8.

Did you find a workaround for that problem?

PS: I tried your steps, and did not have any luck.  If you can get it to work, can you please explain "it worked", and provide step-by-step instructions?

Thanks,
Jacob

Re: G25 driver problem for Windows 8 consumer prewiew

if this doen't get resolved BEFORE the release of windows 8, my G27 will be the last piece of hardware i've bought from logitech. developers preview has been out for months to test your software and drivers. and the fact that every other piece of hardware i own works flawless, points out that the differences between win 7 and 8 aren't that big.

Anobot, you really make it work with forcefeedback? I dont have anything on that... yes, the wheel is functioning partially without forcefeedback

Re: G25 driver problem for Windows 8 consumer prewiew

I'm also experiencing problem with G25 wheel on Windows 8 CP 64-bit.

Extracted setup and modified ini so i could install it properly without compatibility troubleshooter.

I want to use G25 in Need for Speed: Most Wanted, but it does not detect the G25, i see only keyboard listed.

G25 is also listed in Windows with driver version date 27-4-2010.

I'll try some things in the coming days to check whether i can fix it. I'll post feedback here.

Re: G25 driver problem for Windows 8 consumer prewiew

Please Logitech, help us.

Someone within your company will be aware of this issue. We are simply asking for some support/communication as to what the cause is and maybe even a beta patch or something.

Your support is normally much better than this.

Logitech,

Rest assured that I am not resting assured.

I check the website, every single day, looking for an updated version of your drivers/installer for my G27, for Windows 7 and for Windows 8, and every day I am let down.

I will do as you recommend, checking the website often for updates, but I fear I will continually be let down, and I am losing confidence as every day passes.  I do hope you release updated drivers soon.

So, we've found the issue. We're not sure if it's a Windows bug or an installer bug, but some DLLs are not being properly registered. We're going to update the installer soon, but for the time being, I have a manual trick that you can do, after install of LGS 5.10, that'll register the correct files.

NOTE: If you have windows installed to a non-C partition, then you'll have to go ahead and make your own alterations to the below commands

For 64-bit systems:

  1. Launch the Command window in Admin mode
  2. Type: cd C:\Windows\System32
  3. Press Enter
  4. Type: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\WMDrivers\wmjoyfrc.dll
  5. Press Enter, click OK
  6. Type: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\WMDrivers\wmjoyf32.dll
  7. Press Enter, click OK
  8. Close Command Prompt

For 32-bit systems:

  1. Launch the Command window in Admin mode
  2. Type: cd C:\Windows\System32
  3. Press Enter
  4. Type: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\WMDrivers\wmjoyfrc.dll
  5. Press Enter, click OK
  6. Close Command Prompt

Re: G25 driver problem for Windows 8 consumer prewiew

After the above instructions, when you run DxDiag (below is the 32-bit DXDiag), you should see the force feedback driver being registered. So long as the force feedback driver shows as "n/a", you will never get any force feedback.

Re: G25 driver problem for Windows 8 consumer prewiew

Thank you so much!  I had been waiting all week (long work week) so I could test your suggestions, and they do appear to work on my G27 in Windows 8 x64.

It took me a bit to find the command window and run as admin.

To run the command window as admin in Windows 8:

- Bring up charms bar on right side

- Click Search

- Start typing "Command Prompt"

- Right click "Command Prompt"

- Click "Run as administrator"

- Confirm with User Account Control

Then, I did the instructions you provided to register the 2 dll's (since I run x64), confirmed with dxdiag... and voila!

I can finally do more racing and testing in Windows 8!

Thanks guys.  I wish the workaround came sooner, but I'm glad we have one now.

PS: When I ran the installer, I had to set Compatibility Mode for Windows 7, and also I had to right-click and choose "Run as administrator" for it to work.  You might want to see if you can fix both those, when you rebuild the installer package.
