G27 Recalibrates itself while playing

Hey! (Like Sputim says: «Langsam schiisst mich würklech mit eu ah, man!»)

I have a very annoying issue with my brand new G27. First: The device calibration doesn't really center the wheel, its always 20° to the left or to the right. By turning the wheel off the 90° angle (the settings are 90° for turning), i can manage to "calibrate" it by hand. If I have it centered like that, I start playing. After about 3 or 4 laps in F1 2010, the wheel is already about 90° off the center, meaning to drive straight ahead, I have to turn the wheel 90° to the left This makes the game unplayable. I would have to recalibrate it and plug out and back in and start from scratch.

Sometimes after a reboot, I have to replug the device because the wheel won't work. Everything else in the package (H-shifter, pedals, buttons on the wheel) works, but the wheel itself won't. The LED on the sfhiter is blinking in green (instead of glowing steadily).

After reinstalling the driver software several times, it didn't start anymore. So I had to reinstall my installation. However, the same problems are still present with the wheel, but the Game Profiler works again.

Help! :smileysad:

I am a huge fan of Logitech. But lately I really get diappointed. My $150 G-19 has lags when I don't reboot my PC after booting it (yes, I changed everything in the BIOS but it won't change anything, and YES, I have to reboot my pc after booting it to NOT experience lagging with my $150 keyboard!), my G-13 works sometimes and my new G27 won't even work at all. While the drivers for the G-13 and the G-19 are admittabely really good, the drivers for joysticks and also the G27 is horribad. The menu is weird, there is no calibration feature unless you "hack" into the windows one with the Shift-Crtl-Trick, its just not good anymore. You could pull such driver software in Windows 98 but for $300, I expect good drivers, and a working wheel.

Re: G27 Recalibrates itself while playing

I had that kind of problems too.

I plugged my g25 racing wheel in the back USB panel and not the front panel of my computer, now everything works as a charm !

Try that, i did all sorts of stuff, it is the only solution that worked !

Re: G27 Recalibrates itself while playing

So how do you fix it. I use a PS3. I am in New Zealand and have been having problems like that for a year. I am a year over warranty and now the wheel doesn't steer at all. It attempts to do its usual pregame callibration but the wheel stops part way into it. There is no one to service it and I have been told by Logitech that that can't help me. So what do I throw away the wheel that I paid over $300 for. Not very eco-sustainable. Are logitech so big they don't care about issues their customers are having after the warranty has expired. It's things like this that give companies a bad rep. There are many posts about people having issues with their wheels. Why hasn't this been addresed or callbacks?

Re: G27 Recalibrates itself while playing

Sounds like the optical disc, aka encoding wheel is broken. This is a small plastic disc with little holes on it fitted to one of the motor shafts. It allows the wheel to track movement through infrared (IR). When broken this disc spins on the motor shaft freely, and the hardware is unable to calibrate at all. The reason your wheel moves just slightly during calibration is because the encoder wheel moves just slightly before it just sits suspended while the motor shaft spins.

I've been able to have a brass disc machined for a VERY reasonable price by the good folks at CM laser service. Look them up!

Re: G27 Recalibrates itself while playing

Well I got a response from a guy on ifixit.com and he pointed me to a site that showed how to dismantle the wheel. So I pulled it apart and everything looked fine. I put it back together and it worked again. The only thing I can think of is that it may have gotten out of alignment slightly. Could be through using the red bull car with too much feed back on.

Re: G27 Recalibrates itself while playing

Omg....

Disassembling whole steering wheel just to clean encoder shield.
Pointless.
Many times there is a problem with IR receiver (black element) on encoder PCB.
It works fine when wheel is turned right, but looses center position while turning left.

Often, PCB mount (bolted to the engine) is Loose, but in the G27 is a rare case.

Currently, quality control during the assembly of the steering wheel is so poor that 30% comes bad "out of box".
