G27 is detected as Driving Force

Hi guys,

Got a G27 and it seems to be detected funny. The profiler and the Game Controller settings page show a Driving Force and not a G27, and I can't for the life of me get FF working in the Race series of games. It's really driving me up the wall so I'm looking for a bit of help.

I have tried forcing the install of a G27 over the Driving Force as Windows detects but it says 'Inf file not in requested format'.

I use Win 7 64 and profiler 5.1.

Cheers

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

Hi Rented,

I would suggest testing the wheel on a second computer and seeing if it has the same problem, if it does please contact support in your region.

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

Well I did try that, and it doesn't, it detects fine. So where does that leave me with the wheel? I did contact support recently, no reply yet. Basically when I plug it into my desktop the hardware IDs it presents Windows are for a driving force according to the driver inf files included with LGS 5.10. I have read on this forum that the G27 has a (something like) 'multiple personality firmware' such that it can report itself as an older wheel for compatability. What would make it do this when it is plugged into my PC, and not a different one?

Thanks for the reply

Rodney

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

In this thread:

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/G27-no-FFB-in-any-game/td-p/411115

I could be reading what was said about the multi personality aspect incorrectly, but I'll go through and clean my registry out as occured in this thread.

Quite frankly, I want to take this back and get a different brand. I have never had this much trouble installing a peripheral ever before, and that goes back to the days of pre-USB. I don't accept the 'interrupted enumeration' explanation in that thread, either.

Thanks

Rodney

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

Just to close of this thread, support got back to me with more or less, fix your computer, that's it. Whilst that is a semi-valid response given that it worked on another system, I really wanted some information on why the wheel might be reporting as an older model (compatibility mode, from what I have read).

This might have been a good case of support, if it was able to be resolved without me re-installing Windows from scratch, in frustration, without understanding the underlying problem. This has solved the issue, although a reinstall is not the ideal way to solve a problem like this, when no other problem is apparent.

I gave you all the hints I could (Hardware ID being reported as a Driving Force, as matched up in your driver file, showing it is in some sort of compatibility mode, which I think is the key problem), all I wanted was information on when the G27 will do this. How does it know when to revert? Then I may have been able to locate a cause.

If the cause was identified, it could have gone into a FAQ, and as noted in the thread I linked, I am not the only person that has had this issue of the wheel being identified incorrectly. This would have been good support.

Instead, I am quite disappointed as I really just wasted time here. A bit of information to at least attempt to AVOID a reinstall would have made it worthwhile. This occured with an ISP I signed up for once - he couldn't help me, but he tried and made good suggestions, even though I had a modem he hadn't seen before.

A few support staff here probably think that I am being unrealistic about expectations - I'm not. What would have happened if my PC was a Dell and I was a regular user instead of someone with a degree and several industry certs in IT, or at least comfortable with doing fresh OS installs? Dell probably would have said "Well do other devices work? Yes? Well it's not the computer, talk to Logitech". Do you see where I am coming from? The absolute 'It's not us, go elsewhere' attitude that creeps into support so often is something that the company I am working for now spends a lot of training time avoiding with the helpdesk staffers.

Whilst the wheel now works, I was also considering replacing my X52 Pro with a more capable stick for DCS A-10C. And guess what? It will probably not be the Logitech sticks that I consider.

I don't know if this will find the right people to make a difference, but if you want to trade on excellent support credentials then you need to have it first.

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

Did you ever figure out what the problem was or did you stop trying to figure it out after the reinstall? I'm having the same problem only I haven't tried the wheel on any other computers. I have a duel boot system of xp 32 pro and xp 64 pro. On the 32bit xp the wheel works like it should, detects as it should. I don't have the cd's it came with as I just got this wheel off ebay and they weren't included. I downloaded the software from Logitech. It seems like when I try to install on the software on XP x64, the installation assumes it should install in "Program File" instead of "Program Files (x86)" and when I got the profiler to load, it tells me "Logitech profiler was unable to detect any game controllers. Please ensure the devise in connected. If your controller requires a power supply, please verify that it is plugged in and the LED on the controller is lit. Once all connections are verified, click retry. Clicking cancel will close the profiler." I've checked all connections and everything is as it should be, but clicking retry only makes the same message pop up. I've tried just about everything I could think of, I even tried taking the drivers from the 32 bit XP and putting them into the 64bit XP but it didn't do anything, so I deleted them. I've been trying to figure this out since about this time put only in the pm and here it is am now... I don't care much for Windows 7, so in order to use all my computers resources, I use XP x64 and that means that the games I would play with this wheel are all on the 64bit XP that I can't use this wheel with right now... I'd like to get to this problem solved as soon as possible seeing as I only have 7 days to send the wheel back. For as much as people pay for these, you'd think Logitech would come to your house and fix problems like this for you but nah, you're lucky if you get a logical response from them at all.

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

I'm too tired to go in to much detail but I just said the just of it all, so someone else can explain it in more detail if I don't tomorrow.

Re: G27 is detected as Driving Force

[ Edited ]

Ehhrrr.. What? I have exactly the same problem as you guys. I am running win 7 x64 though. I have used my g27 with no problem on this OS before, but have recently reinstalled. Now I get the same error as you. The Logitech Profiler does not detect any device, when i press devices(&printers) in startmenu i see g27 racing wheel, when clicking on "game controller settings" it shows as a Logitech Friving Force and pedals do not work.

I thought I had a hardware error until I started up F1 2011 and (while the game also reported a "Logitech Driving Force" wheel, I could use custom profile and then my pedals worked (though the wheel buttons, the six red ones, all report as "left side - button 8" - "right side - button 7" ... or vice versa. Like I only had two buttons see....)

Seems like I am stuck with the same problem as you guys and I want to fix this without reinstallling or anything drastic,so I dl'ed your archive app, but I do not get what you did with it to get it to work. Understandably you were tired thenn but maby you are able to go a bit more in depth now please? :smileyhappy: Just speak computer to me i do not need to be spoon fed.

Please

EDIT:

I got it working. I uninstalled the drivers completely from the devices & printers, g27, properties, hardware, properties, driver: Uninstall driver (selected delete driver from disk or whatever it says).

Strange thing is that i did not reconnect the wheel or anything I just poked around to see where I could find "new" drivers (after unpacking the logiprofiler510 selfextractor and found where the drivers where in some sub folders) well before I did anything I saw it said, correctly, Logitech G27 Racing Wheel USB and Logitech G27 Racing Wheel USB (HID) in the properties/driver of the g27, where it had said Logitech Driving Force before (I think... also late now lol). So i tried to calibrate and stuff and it was ALL OK! :smileyhappy:)

BTW Logitech! This is you premier racing wheel. What about updating the drivers for it? Include it in the "Gaming Software 8.20"? So I do not need that many different profilers and shXX running at same time!!!!! Razer is a good example also of NOT how to do things... Why cant anything be "all in one" when you have same brand? Now i have TWO razer icons for mouse and keyboard and I got two logitech for g13 and g27. What a mess :smileytongue: Stupid! Especially when it does not work as it should!!! (yeah logitech i have struggled quite a bit with my g13 software, since before the introduction of the "Gaming Software which LOOKS like some all in one thing BUT if i connect my G700 mouse I will now have 3 different logitech "icons" in my tray. Ok I have the resources but anyway it is so complicated!! Like the Gaming software can add functions for the G500 mouse (i think it was) to the g13 keys, but why not the g700? Aint the G700 the "best"............ ok i'll stop ranting now and play f1 2011. Nobody will take notice anyway..........

Thank you JYLP for leading me in the right way at least, though i did not need your tool I had not figured it out if i had not tried to follow your "instructions" :smileywink:
