Re: G940 firmware 1.42 is now available

After all the waiting to get one, my G940 is still in it's box. The throttle wire problem seems 'fixable', so that wasn't enough to cause me a huge amount of concern (though opening up a brand new item to fix a design/manufacturing shortfall is still quite unacceptable), but the lack of a firmware fix for this reversal bug business is a major problem.

If the reversal bug is not properly fixed in the near future (not reduced mind you, but FIXED), I'll be listing this thing on ebay and never looking at another Logitech product ever again.

Come on Logitech, your reputation really is on the line here.

See that's the thing.. they don't care.. they've already made their money off of you so if you sell it on e-bay it's no sweat off their backs.

As far as not using it goes... well heck you've already got it, might as well use it!  Trust me, the resale value isn't going to plummet just because you hooked it up and used it once or twice.  Who knows, you might really like yours!  I love mine!  (Aside from its obvious flaws).  I've used mine almost every day for over a year now.

As far as the reversal bug goes, they've made a dramatic improvement on it in the stick's X and Y axes and there's a good chance that unless you're really trying hard, you won't even notice it in the stick.

The throttles, trims, and rudders are a different story altogether.  The game I play the most just updated how they do their ground vehicles.  I'm not fond of some of the changes but one change they made was to add an adjustable site so you can tune in your range.  I have mapped that adjustment to the trim wheel on the back of the throttles but the reversal bug is extremely noticeable in that circumstance.  I want a little closer.. oops too close so I back off just a little and it just past the mark way too far.  To do that I have to purposely go too far and then go back slowly and plan for that jump.  That simply isn't acceptable.  It makes that whole feature useless!

As I stated before I'm very close to simply buying a third-party controller board and rewiring the rudders and throttle through it, bypassing the firmware altogether.  The stick unfortunately I can do nothing about otherwise I'll lose FF controls and that would negate having the G940 in the first place!

Re: G940 firmware 1.42 is now available

Cool. I've pretty much decided to open up the throttle now, and have a look at the problematic wire at least (keeping in mind that the warranty is gone as soon as I do so). Then I'll crack on with using the thing and see how it goes.

I'll keep an eye on those BU0836X controller mods for the throttle and rudder too, in case I feel the need to tackle that in the future depending on performance with the 1.42 (or later) firmware.

Re: G940 firmware 1.42 is now available

I just stumbled over an interesting site, Logitech will soon have some FF competition in the HOTAS/YOKE field:

http://www.paccus.com/PaccusInterfaces-hydraulicjoysticks.htm

Sure, this is no HOTAS/YOKE yet and lacks too many features. But read this (in the news section):

In the near future we'll also bring you hydraulic feedback pedals. So then you can feel all control surfaces (eleron, elevator, rudder and gear.)

Throttle, yoke, flap control panel and built-in unit will be developed in 2011.

Doesn't sound too bad, does it. Logitech, better show some proof of life regarding support of the G940, before the competition is here (please!).

Re: G940 firmware 1.42 is now available

Firstly, i have to thank CharlesB for actually getting a step forward on this matter. But no reply and no updates on this problem for half a year now, i must say i am thinking that bone you threw us was the final work on this product. Which is not what people would call customer-care.

Please work with us here, Charles. Any reply is better than silence at this point.

Regards

Lars (A patient man)

Don't plan on purchasing one unless you want to do some modifications to it.  I've given up and taken matters into my own hands.

Here's a nice write up I created that explains how.  Enjoy!

Re: G940 firmware 1.42 is now available

this is what charles b wrote me

"Actually, where the Gaming group is concentrating it's G940 resources right now is improving the quality of the feedback profiles with the actual game developers, and encouraging them to take greater advantage of the hardware (Like improving the use of the LED buttons). That will actually have the biggest benefit to flight sim people."

Wow they can care less

They're either clueless, or careless.... either way it's no excuse for a large company like Logitech. <shrug> doesn't matter to me anymore.  I've fixed my stick and now I'm happy with how it works.  It will also be the last Logitech product I'll ever purchase or recommend.
