"You have to remember that FLIGHT SYSTEM is not a simple pad or joystick and you will need to sacrafice a bit of time to make it work. If you just follow my tutorial I'm sure that your aircraft will take you where you want to fly on your virtual sky. "
Logitech G940 Tutorial
How to set up my Flight System for FSX (Flight simulator X) ?
This tutorial can be downloaded from here:
http://www.2shared.com/file/f8bum--I/g940nastavy.h
(* package contains pictures, xml file and Logitech FS light control)
ATTENTION: Please read carefully entire tutorial !!!
I. Profiler and hardware configuration
First of all, you will need to have a look on your throttle. On the right hand-side of the throttle’s
knob you will notice sth which is called ID (1,2,3).
You will need to set it to ID “2”.
Why I have done it ?
I use Windows 7 64 bits and FSX from some reason sees G940 assignments as keyboard assignments if the ID is set to 1 (?!!) I don’t know why is that. It never happened with Win7 32 bits neither Win XP. I have not tested it on Win Vista. Sorry...
Now you will need to open up your LGP (Logitech Gaming Profiler) and have a look on the setting like on the picture “global setting.jpg” and check and un-check all red-highlighted places.
Then you can import* to the profiler the “xml”** file which you will find inside the folder with pictures.
(Click on profile in the upper right corner and select import ).
* If you dont wish to import my XML file you can skip it but you will need to delete all assignments in profiler and leave them empty. Don't worry it will not affect the game. Then just jump to part II of this tutorial.
**The xml file can be downloaded from the link posted above.
Now you can minimize your profiler as you won’t need it anymore just make sure to save your setting before you shot down your PC. If you forgot. Don’t worry you can load up “xml.” file next time. Ok. If it is done you need to run your FSX (you don’t really need to do it from the profiler and just simply click on your FSX icon on your desktop and run the game).
II. Calibration
It is recommended only for the first time. In FSX game you need to select pedals, click on calibrate tab and
configure it then save at the end. Control settings -> Calibration tab (Calibrate)** .
Do the same for joystick and throttle.***
* Notice that there are some buttons f.e. POV(metal button) which you won't be able to configure for FSX so in the calibration window just skip the step where system asks you to configure POV (metal button). You dont really need them in the game.
(see picture calibration FSX example.jpg ).
*** POV(metal button) There are two such a buttons: one is on the throttle and one on the joystick.
III. Assignments
This will be the longest part of this tutorial, so you will need to sacrifice
around 30-40 minutes
to set everything up.
First of all, go to your FSX setting and select controls.
You will need to clear all, I repeat - all assignments in FSX (both, for keyboard, joystick, throttle, pedals). Remember, they all have to be blank at the end. Make sure youhave selected all devices from g940 (pedals, throttle, joystick).
Whole control setting (Buttons/keys) have to be cleared out and control axes too. You should not see anything in assignments at all.
*if NOT your system won’t work properly.
If you finished, close down your FSX and re-run it again, go to your “setting control” and once again check if all assignments for pedals, throttle and joystick remain empty. If not clear them out.
Ok. Now we are going to start assigning our commands to make our jet flyable.
Let’s configure our pedals. You will need to have a look on the pictures pedals part1
, 2,3, 4 (pedals part1/2/3.jpg etc) and make sure that your setting is the same.
*(Remember this is only an option so you don’t really need to do all assignments in the way I did, but it is
recommended now. Later on, once you have everything set up, you can make your own changes etc.)
Next parts are throttle and joystick. Just look on the relevant pictures (“joystick part 1/2/3 etc, throttle part 1/2/3 etc..) and follow instruction on the screen. Make sure you cover all re-highlighted places.
Once you have completed it, you can start assigning other commands from your keyboard, for example: “Pause” for “P” ,“~” for “ATC window”, “1” for “category view” and so on...
Remember, when you do assignments for keyboard, they will be visible under the setting for all your devices, no matter from what device you’re doing it, so don’t worry about this if you see the same assignments for keyboard under joystick, pedals and throttle.
Have a look on my “keyboard example.jpg” picture and see how I set the commands.
Also remember that if you ever would like to change some buttons on your device, for example:
joystick, and re-assign in the FSX “button 2” from for example: “parking break” to “pushback” then you will need to change it in the same way in your profiler.
* if you had cleaned out all assignments in the profiler before you dont need to do it.
So again, just to make it clear, for example you want to use both settings: profiler and the game.
(*You can not use only assgnments in the profiler and at the same time leave them empty in FSX - its not gonna work)
- assignment in FSX for “button 4” on the joystick is “landing lights”, so then in the profiler assignment for “button 4” of the joystick has to be exactly same.
It means you should see in profiler under “button 4” - “landing lights”. Easy, is’nt ?
* Sometimes you won't be able to find the same FSX's command in Logitech Profiler so then the command line for the button in profiler should be blank.
Ok. So let say we have all our assignments set. Now is time to test it in our FSX environment but before you do that just close down FSX and re-open it in case it would crash without a reason as then you will need to start all over again.
IV. Testing
Go and select some jet, put it on runway and start testing.
Select outside view (spot view from the top menu in FSX (hold down “Left alt” for top menu)) and move your joystick left/right, up/down and see if the aircraft responses.
Do the same with pedals. Push them (once left, once right) and see if the rudder moves and then
again with the throttle, move it forward and see if the aircraft starts.
Then simply check if all commands you have assigned work and if you like the way it works.
If sth seems not to be working or maybe some assignments are not very handy for you, you can change them in the way you like (go to the top menu select controls-> make changes -> go back to your jet and test) but again if you do some changes for G940 devices in FSX, you will need to change them exactly in the same way in Logitech profiler.
If you do changes only for keyboard so do it only in FSX itself as profiler has nothing to do with the keyboard setting.
V. Force feedback.
What about the force feedback then ?.
It is controlled by the game and the profiler is able to gain the experience if you wish but you will need to test it by yourself as everyone has different feelings so there is no "one the best" setup for everybody. You just need to test it and find the best setting for yourself. I hope your aircraft can fly now and you’re enjoying your G940.
REMEMBER !!!
- you can change the assignments for the keyboard in the way you like - I shown you only example of my configuration.
- the same with the sensitivity of the pedals and joystick ( I don't recommend to touch the sensitivity of the throttle).
You can set them up in the way you like. You will need to find out the best setting for your jet as it depends on if the jet is default or payware one, they may response differently.
(I’ve been flying with Airbus Wilco vol.1 319, 320 for long time and G940 works brilliant for me)
p.s
I can guarantee that my flight system works without any problem now although I had had some problems before but it was simply lack of my knowledge. Of course it is understood that this tutorial won't make everybody happy but it won't affect your flight in the game.
Helpful links:
1) Firmware update 1.42*: ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/G9
Fix joystick’s axis bugs and force feedback experience.
* you won’t be able to roll the firmware down.
2) Inside the folder you will be able to find out Logitech Control Light System.
I found it online. All details about the author and contacts can be founded inside the folder.
Read the manual before you install it.
3) Logitech Gaming Profiler 5.09
It is optimum for G940 and you don’t really need any higher version of LGP.
Win XP, Vista, 7 . For 32 bits only.
ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/lg
Win XP, Vista, 7 . For 64 bits only.

4) Great add-ons for FSX and so on.

Hi there,
The problem with the BF series is that the game has limited devices that you can connect to . So that there is no way around. (as far as I know). The request should be sent out to the producent of BF to change it if possible.

When I use the 940 software and drivers on my system (Win7 64-bit), it shows as three devices and BF3 will only recognize one of the devices. If I remover the logitech software and drivers and allow windows to select drivers, it shows as one device and all work with BF3, however, there are no options to adjust/change force feedback or tension on any of the controllers. Everything is way too sensitive. Any ideas? Hope someone still monitors this thread.
Thanks
