Re: Logitech Wingman Force & Windows 7 64-bit

I have had a Logitech Wingman Force joystick for years like everyone else. When I install lgs510_x64.exe I get exactly the same error as described earlier - no driver can be installed. Why isn't a driver embedded in the installer, as often done in other situations. Then again, why does the Wingman need another driver? Lots of my devices just worked when I plug them back into the PC after installing WinVis64.

I cannot understand how companies which manufacture these products feel that they can just abandon users who pay good money for products which then end up one the scrapheap because of some distant corporate decision.

Logitech could bost it's reputation no end by getting a couple of developers to spend a day or two changing the code for the drivers and re-issiuing them accordingly. and emailing the results to everyone who has queried this issue.

Where has honour in corporate manufacture, selling and support gone these days?

Kenneth Spencer.

Re: Logitech Wingman Force & Windows 7 64-bit

Well, I'm having the same problems and it's a year later with still no solutions that I've been able to find. I fail to understand why Logitech would stop supporting a perfectly good joystick/flight stick like the Wingman Force J-UA9 because the only other option for an intelligent consumer would be to purchase a new flight stick from another manufacturer. Logitech looses out on customer appreciation / continued Logitech purchases and raises a competetor's bottom line. It's bad for business but most of all, it really frustrates us who spent a lot of money on a good product which is now useless.Bad form, Logitech....  :smileyfrustrated:

Re: Logitech Wingman Force & Windows 7 64-bit

This is indeed a very strange story. I've been a happy Logitech owner for many years but I can't really cope with this behaviour. The least they should do if Logitech wants to discontinue support for this joystick is give the driver source code to the community so it can be handled by open source developers.

Re: Logitech Wingman Force & Windows 7 64-bit

SO:

  • The Wingman Force and Formula Force are not USB HID products
  • They do not use the common drivers that HID products can
  • They are serial products that can use a special USB adapter and communicate to the PC in very nonstandard ways
  • Their feedback effects HAVE to be prewritten to the memory of the device and executed by calling to the memory space of the effect. Every USB Force Feecback device we made after these two devices can accept on-the-fly effects sent to them from the comptuer and do not require preloading to the hardware.
  • The memory of the device was quite good at the time of the build, but now and with what game developers are doing, it's very limited
  • To extend the life of the product, we implemented ever-more complex tricks to get the device to transparently work as long as possible, but modern game effects continued to put more demand on the hardware.
  • With 64-bit addressing, our tricks were completely broken. Considering the limitations of the hardware on such a fundamental level, we did not continue development. To unify the codebase, all support was taken out for both 5.x builds, and if you want to continue using this product, use LGS 4.6 on a Windows x86 machine.
  • Our LGS 4.6 code is not prepared for public release and I do not think we will ever release it openly.

Re: Logitech Wingman Force & Windows 7 64-bit

I also just tried on Sept 18th 2012 , as I wanted to use the joystick for helocoptors in BF3 instead of a mouse.

The joystick is not seen and ive tried compatability mode for vista and nothing works on Win 7 64 bit for me.
